Acclaimed indie beat-’em-up Absolum is getting a big new update early next year, publisher Dotemu and developers Guard Crush Games and Supamonks have revealed.
In a news post on Steam, the studios say that Update 1.1, also known as “Threads of Fate”, will arrive sometime in early 2026, and that it will be free for all players. What’s more, you can expect “more than just tweaks and fixes” from the update.
First up, a new Mystic Ordeals system will allow you to challenge yourself beyond the confines of the original game; it’ll bring new pre-set runs with different conditions applied, and you’ll also be able to create your own in order to challenge other Absolum players around the world.
You’ll also be able to take on new corrupted regions with stronger enemies around Absolum‘s map, and these new regions will provide you with better rewards in exchange for the greater risk you’ll take in entering them.
New Elite Mounts will also be peppered throughout Absolum, and they’ll be “bigger, better, faster, stronger, and [have] new ways of dealing death to the Crimson Order”, according to the devs.
To help your characters express themselves, new emotes and skins will also be added to Absolum as part of this update, so make sure you check those out if you’re looking for new and more idiosyncratic ways to communicate with your team.
If you’re not familiar with Absolum, it’s a side-scrolling beat-’em-up with roguelite elements, and it’s also publisher Dotemu’s first original IP, with the studio having worked on licensed titles like Ninja Gaiden Ragebound and Metal Slug Tactics prior to Absolum‘s release.
Absolum managed to sell 200,000 copies within its first week on sale, and Dotemu says “hundreds of thousands” of players have now experienced the game, so it could well have picked up a few more sales for itself in the interim.
If you want to count yourself among them, Absolum is available now on PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
