The Tailed Beasts were a significant part of the Naruto series, and the entire story was centered around the power derived from these mythical and monstrous entities. At the end of Naruto, on November 10, 2014, Naruto Uzumaki had befriended all the Tailed Beasts, and they were free to roam the world at this point.
Unfortunately, after this point, the Tailed Beasts started losing their importance in the franchise. When the Boruto series began, the vast majority of the focus was on Kurama. Unfortunately, through new power systems such as the Karma, the Tailed Beasts started losing their importance. Thankfully, the second part of the Boruto series, titled Two Blue Vortex, has officially revived the Tailed Beast plotline in a unique manner by giving them human incarnations. Now, all the Tailed Beasts have renewed importance in the series, with a bright future that we absolutely cannot wait to witness.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Is Officially Bringing Back The Biju With New “Human Tailed Beasts” System
The concept of a Human Tailed Beast was first mentioned officially in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 14, which was officially released in V-Jump Issue #11 on September 20, 2024. At the time, this idea was foreign to the Boruto series as well as the Naruto franchise, but since then, it has started making a lot of sense. This system was officially introduced with Jura, the creation made by Code during the timeskip. By utilizing the Shinjutsu of Claw Marks on the Tailed Beasts, Code led to the creation of miniature entities known as Claw Grimes. Just like the Tailed Beasts, they essentially run after the nearest source of chakra. By absorbing chakra from other shinobi, they eventually went on to gain sentience. While most Claw Grimes are just copies of different shinobi, Jura, the strongest one of them all, was very different.
“Jura is a special case. Unlike the others, he has no prototype. He is a direct incarnation of the Ten Tails, and the one steering this crisis we’re facing right now.” — Boruto Uzumaki explains Human Tailed Beast Jura Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #14
It was officially confirmed in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 14 that Jura was an incarnation of the Ten Tails itself. In other words, Jura is a sentient form of the Ten-Tails with a human body and a brain with the capacity for continuous growth, both in terms of intellect and emotions. This makes him doubly special as a villain in the Boruto franchise, and it also gives renewed importance to the Ten-Tails.
The Human Tailed Beast System was officially expanded upon when it was confirmed that, just like Jura, Himawari is also a Human Tailed Beast or a human incarnation of a Tailed Beast. Upon the death of Kurama in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 55, released on February 19, 2021, fans knew Kurama would eventually reincarnate. In Two Blue Vortex, it was confirmed that Kurama had reincarnated inside Himawari. However, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 25, released on August 20, 2025, officially confirmed to us that Himawari is not a Tailed Beast Jinchuriki. Instead, she is more like Jura. In other words, Kurama and Himawari are one entity, and Himawari is simply a humanoid Tailed Beast.
“You’re no ordinary Shinobi. In fact, you’re even a little different from Jinchuriki…those who have the Tailed Beast inside them. You are human, yet, if anything, you’re more similar to me and Jura.” – Kurama explains why Himawari is not a Jinchuriki, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #25
As to how this system differs from the previous Jinchuriki system from Naruto, which was officially introduced in Chapter 216 on June 13, 2005, the answer is quite simple: Human Tailed Beasts have far more synergy between the human and the beast, and as such, can bring out way more power than a Jinchuriki ever could. The growth between the two is far quicker, and the level of strength they can put out is far higher.
This was officially confirmed by Kurama in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #10, where he stated that Himawari is even more compatible with him than Naruto, and that they can bring out far more energy in the future when his powers are fully mastered. In a sense, this is Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto’s way of reviving the Jinchuriki system but scaling it up to threats on the level of the Tailed Beasts and Otsutsuki.
“I can sense that your chakra has a higher affinity to mine, more than any predecessor of yours. More than even Naruto’s. So, get rid of any foolish preconceived biases. You need to believe in yourself.” — Kurama explains Himawari’s potential as a Human Tailed Beast, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter #10

Boruto Officially Unleashes A Kekkei Genkai Stronger Than Rinnegan
The Rinnegan is a godly power that has sadly been nerfed and surpassed by a new Kekkei Genkai in the Boruto series.
Why Gyuki Could Be The Next Tailed Beast to Get A Human Incarnation
At the moment, there are only two Human-Tailed Beasts in the Boruto franchise, but with time, more of them are highly likely to emerge. The next in line could be Gyuki, the 8 Tailed Beast, who currently resides within Killer Bee. As things stand, Killer Bee is the last remaining Jinchuriki in the world of Boruto, and given that he is old now, he likely doesn’t have long left. Mikio Ikemoto can take two different approaches with Gyuki:
- Killer Bee could receive a significant power-up and be turned into a Human Tailed Beast through some means.
- Killer Bee could potentially be killed off, and then, after Gyuki is revived, it could come back as a Human Tailed Beast, as was the case with Kurama and Himawari.
Both approaches would be fine by the fans, but they would rather have Killer Bee get involved in the story and pay respect to the Naruto franchise once again. In either case, the remaining Tailed Beasts are likely to follow a similar pattern, and we absolutely cannot wait to see these powerful beasts showcase their immense abilities on the battlefield as a war against Otsutsuki looms in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.
“It’s about time I started hunting down you filthy Beasts.” — Madara Uchiha before beating all 9 Tailed Beasts, Naruto Chapter #657
Boruto’s New Human Tailed Beast Power System Officially Upgrades The Old System
Right now, 7 of the 9 Tailed Beasts that exist in the world of Naruto are roaming freely. However, if some calamity were to befall them later down the line, they could be forced to join hands with capable humans to create Human-Tailed Beasts. In another scenario, if they were to die, they could come back as Human Tailed Beasts, fully completing the new Power System as well as introducing uniquely new characters with tremendous powers up their sleeve, expanding upon the cast of the Boruto series in the process.
As things stand, this humanoid-tailed beast system is incredibly diverse and expansive and can be used by the author in a plethora of ways, be it to create unique enemies or to strengthen the cast of the Boruto series. The biggest factor of this new system is that it officially upgrades the old powers of the Jinchuriki. In the Fourth Great Ninja War, the Jinchuriki were revealed to be greatly limited in terms of what they could do when they were up against the likes of the Ten Tails and the Otsutsuki. That is precisely why the Human-Tailed Beasts exist, as their power officially makes the Tailed Beasts effective against the top tiers of the Boruto-verse.
We absolutely cannot wait to see all nine Human-Tailed Beasts in the future in Boruto. If Mikio Ikemoto and Masashi Kishimoto want to expand the system beyond just the Ten Tails and Nine Tails, then the Boruto story will become much more expansive and interesting, with immense lore and worldbuilding to come along with it.
The latest chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex by Masashi Kishimoto and Mikio Ikemoto are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
