Phantom Blade Zero has multiple endings, most of which are variations of the regular ending. However, the Perfect Ending has additional requirements that you must complete before passing the point of no return. It provides a more satisfying conclusion to the story and has its own trophy or achievement. This guide covers everything you need to do to unlock it and the rewards you can obtain.
This guide contains major spoilers for story events and the ending of the game.
How to Get the Perfect Ending in Phantom Blade Zero
To get the Perfect Ending, you need to focus on completing the story quests marked with purple icons in the quest tab. These quests often continue across multiple regions, meaning that completing one objective does not necessarily finish the entire quest. You should also complete as many side quests as possible, especially those involving major NPCs, as these can affect the regular ending.
The following purple story quests are important for unlocking the Perfect Ending:
- Whence the Weeping
- Crimson Manor
- The Herald’s Illusion
- Pillars of Kunlun
- Sha-Chi Powered Boat
- Allure of Vanity
- Illusory Pipa
- Secrets at the Heart of the Lake
Several of these quests require backtracking. For example, you must explore Crimson Manor after finding all three portals during The Herald’s Illusion, while accessing Mountain of Imprisonment requires you to gather all the pieces of the Illusory Pipa.
You should also focus on the Long Pillars found in certain regions. These are associated with the Gold-Masked One encounters during the Bloodline Awakening quest. The later stages of Secrets at the Heart of the Lake require you to find all four Acolyte Masks, which you can use in the northwestern part of Meigu Lake to open the path to the Phantom Illusionist Realm. You will find another Long Pillar inside this area.
Another important requirement is collecting all the treasures belonging to Quick Hand Zhang throughout the different regions. Make sure you keep track of these collectibles as you progress, since you will have opportunities to find more of them in later areas.
The first major point of no return appears in Pangzhen, after you collect all the items from the Serpent Houses. Once you open the door at the Green Serpent House leading to Mirage Estate, the game will warn you if you have unfinished requirements related to the Perfect Ending.
At this point, you can either return to complete the remaining objectives or ignore the warning and proceed. If you continue without completing the necessary requirements, you will not trigger the Perfect Ending.
Complete the Remaining Objectives in Mirage Estate
Once inside Mirage Estate, you can find another Long Pillar, along with additional treasures belonging to Quick Hand Zhang. Use this opportunity to finish both questlines before moving on to Mount Soulrend, the final region of the game.
Make sure you have completed the required story quests, collected the necessary treasures, and dealt with any remaining objectives before leaving the area. Missing these requirements can prevent you from unlocking the Perfect Ending.
How to Trigger the Perfect Ending
Mount Soulrend contains another point of no return. Before proceeding to the final boss, pay attention to Inanis and what she says. If she does not mention anything major that you still need to resolve, you can continue toward the final encounter.
Defeat the final boss to trigger an additional fight that is exclusive to the Perfect Ending and does not appear during the regular ending. Winning this encounter will complete the Perfect Ending route.
Perfect Ending Rewards
After defeating the final boss and completing the additional fight, you will receive the following rewards:
- Aureate: Weapon
- Broken Long Body: Soul Tempering Material
- Legacy Outfit: Outfit, unless you already obtained it through pre-ordering
Completing the Perfect Ending also allows you to earn its associated trophy or achievement.
Even if you complete the regular ending first, after the credits roll, you will have the option to either start a new cycle, which means NG+, or load back to the Last Chance Bell, which is before the point of no return. From here, you can complete all the remaining requirements and proceed to fight the final few bosses of the game to trigger the Perfect Ending this time.
