Armored Core 6 is one of the finest mech games you can play and if you’ve been looking for an excuse to dive back into it, here’s your chance. It’s been six months since the game’s last update, but developer FromSoftware has released a major patch that seriously shakes things up.
Whether you’re playing solo or scrapping with other human pilots, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon’s latest update deserves your attention. The good news is that the patch, version 1.09, doesn’t buff this mech game’s bosses. But it does tweak several of the weapon parts and mech components, in the name of improving the game’s overall balance.
In our Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon review, we called it the ultimate mech game, and we’re glad to see that, nearly two years after its release, FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment haven’t forgotten about it.
So what’s changed? You can find the full patch notes here, but there’s a balanced mix of nerfing and buffing. The booster IA-C01B: GILLS, for example, has become more powerful and if you’ve integrated the AG-E-013 YABA generator into your mech, or ‘core’, your fire rate will receive an extra boost. And if you’re making use of RC-2000 SPRING CHICKEN (Armored Core 6 has the best part names), your mech load limit will be higher than it was pre-patch.
That’s all the excuse to need to dive in and get tweaking your mech. But what if you’ve not played Armored Core 6 at all? Now’s absolutely the time to dive in, because the game is 40% off on Steam. That makes it $35.99 / £29.99, down from $59.99 / £49.99.
