Baldur’s Gate 3 NPCs And Their Lookalikes

There are certain NPCs you’ll meet in Baldur’s Gate 3 that may call into mind a character from other notable movies or video game series. Quite soon, things can quickly start to turn into the Leonardo DiCaprio meme from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where he’s sitting on the couch and pointing out stuff on the TV.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 Best NPCs You Meet In Act 1

Did you get acquainted with some of these characters in Baldur’s Gate 3’s first act?

There are lots of interesting connections to draw between characters from Baldur’s Gate 3 and their potential lookalikes, based on character design, accessories, outfits, and key features. These may not all be exactly identical, but the majority stand out strikingly.

1 Kagha And Tauriel

The Hobbit Movies

If Kagha and Tauriel were to ever meet each other, they’ll find they disagree on a lot of issues, particularly on the well-being of others and leadership, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re both elves who bear a striking resemblance to one another. Evangeline Lilly was doubtfully the face model for Kagha, yet the hair color and style, ears, similar brows, eyes, and green outfit instantly make you see Tauriel.

Tauriel was present in all three Hobbit prequel movies made by Peter Jackson that were adapted from Tolkien’s book, just as with The Lord of the Rings. However, the iconic elf played by Evangeline Lilly was an original character who did not exist in the books. Larian might’ve felt inspired by her when considering the character design for BG3’s fearless Druid Wood Elf.

2 The Spectator And Cacodemon

Doom

Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on the characters, creatures, and races from the world of Dungeons & Dragons, and the Spectator has been around since the tabletop game’s first edition, so it technically predates Doom. But the way the Spectator is specifically designed in BG3 does share a ton of one-to-one aspects and similar features with the Cacodemon.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of tough encounters, but these ones will really put your party through its paces.

The Cacodemon is one of the main demonic alien enemies the Doom Slayer encounters on his journey, characterized by its fleshy orb shape with ravenous teeth, spikes, and a big green eye in the center, which comes right out in glory kills. The Spectator may be bigger and have more appendages, but it could easily be in the same family as the Cacodemon.

3 Scratch And Hewie

Haunting Ground

Early on in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, you may come across a cute furry white dog named Scratch that you can befriend and send to your camp for endless pets. And then you think – ‘Wait, have I seen such a dog somewhere else before?’ If you’re thinking of Hewie from the PS2-era horror game Haunting Ground, you’re not alone.

Both dogs have now become among the most memorable in gaming, and both are white German Shepherds with adorable designs. Aside from similarities in breed, Scratch and Hewie are active companions in the gameplay, both helping fellow protagonists with enemies in combat and the latter even being able to help search for items.

4 Balthazar And Robert Nightingale

Alan Wake 2

Take one good look at Balthazar from Baldur’s Gate 3, and you can be tricked into believing that he’s just Robert Nightingale from Alan Wake 2 with a hooded cloak and pentagram facial scarring. They’re two eerie characters, and their faces are quite eerily similar, so here’s something else Remedy’s sequel has in common with BG3.

Although Doug Cockle does voice a different character in Baldur’s Gate 3 (Bhaal), Balthazar’s likeness is still uncanny. Coincidentally enough, he and Cockle’s Nightingale are also both undead characters who serve their respective masters, Balthazar answering to Ketheric Thorn, and Nightingale a Taken under the control of Mr. Scratch.

5 Minsc And Kratos

God Of War

Before you even fully realize who Minsc looks like, his entrance is already reminiscent of Kratos from God of War. You first see Minsc in the Counting House Vault, where he emerges from a mimic chest, mustering enough strength to pull its jaws apart and then fling it away by its tongue in maneuvers Kratos has plenty of experience with.

And then once you get to hear his gruff voice and see his build and the face tattoo, he’s Kratos in all but the choice of attire (and facial hair). And while Kratos has the severed head of Mimir at his side in the later sequels, Minsc too has a companion, which is a cute little hamster going by the name Boo.

6 Volo And Dandelion

The Witcher 3

The tale of two bards is what Volo and Dandelion are. Both have charming and flamboyant personalities as Bards must, similar tastes in fashion, and well-maintained mustaches that define them. Their voices obviously carry differently and don’t sound alike, nor do most of their interests align, but these wonderful companions still feel like they could be long-lost brothers.

Volo is always jovial and lively and speaks with a very exaggerated tone while using sharp and careful word choices that instantly grab your attention and create some memorable lines of dialogue. Jaskier is nowhere near as brazen when it comes to dialogue, much more peaceful, but oh what stories these two could trade.

7 Enver Gortash And Clive Rosfield

Final Fantasy 16

From a character standpoint, comparing Enver Gortash with protagonist Clive Rosfield from FF16 is like apples and oranges. One is a complete villain, and the other is the hero of the fantasy story. However, you can’t deny that they have some similar things going on with their characters, visually.

Clive and Gortash have the same style and volume of dark black hair and stubble, wear outfits that expose their chests, and speak with confidence and conviction. The main difference is that Clive is much younger than Enver, the latter’s age really showing on his character model.

Enver Gortash is voiced by actor Jason Isaacs, known for his villain roles in projects like The OA, The Death of Stalin, A Cure for Wellness, and the Harry Potter films.

8 Astarion And Vergil And Romantic Leon

Devil May Cry 5 And Resident Evil 4 Remake

With Astarion being a unique character such as he is and a performance that won his voice actor Neil Newbon the Game Award, you might think it hard to find a doppelganger for him. Well, Astarion actually has two. Those would be Devil May Cry 5’s Vergil and Leon Kennedy in the Romantic costume from Resident Evil 4 Remake.

If you’re looking to befriend Astarion and possibly further than friendship, this guide details exactly how to cozy up to the rogue.

Leon is certainly no vampire but the Romantic outfit makes him look paler, gives him that grayish-white wavy hair like Astarion’s and a tunic with ruffles, and alludes to BG3’s romance option (plus, the menu pose screams Asatrion). Vergil’s hair and facial expressions also complement Astarion perfectly.

9 Varsh Ko’kuu And Geppetto

Lies Of P

While Varsh Ko’kuu may be a Githyanki and Geppetto a human in Lies of P, regardless, here is the case where not only the faces are similar but likewise the backgrounds of the characters. You meet Varsh during Act 1’s Steal a Githyanki Egg side quest, where he’s hanging around and guarding the Githyanki Hatchery at the Crèche.

Varsh is in charge of making sure the Githyanki eggs are safe and is part of the cycle of creation of bringing Githyanki into the world, just as Geppetto was responsible for the creation of the puppet Pinocchio and the others now wreaking havoc in Krat. They also both wear monocles, have graying hair, and their beards are of identical growth as well.

10 Nightsong And Merrin

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order And Jedi: Survivor

A Nightsong and a Nightsister really do sound like they’d go hand in hand, and you can clearly see the resemblance. Nightsong and Merrin of Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor share the same natural skin tone and facial markings, but even with different hair colors and hairstyles, Nightsong can easily be mistaken for a Nightsister in Star Wars lore.

This pairing also makes sense because of the religious connections between both characters. Nightsong is really the daughter of Selûne, the Goddess whose temple leads to one of the Underdark locations from the Goblin Camp, and the Nightsisters are also magic-wielders who worship deities like the Winged Goddess.
