Not only does Baldur’s Gate 3 give you nigh unlimited freedom, but it also looks good while doing so. The gorgeously detailed maps, unique character features, and intricate attire design only add to its overall beauty. The bustling streets of the city and often cramped structures really make you feel like you’re in the midst of it all.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Shows That Modern RPGs Fail When Designers Underestimate Player Curiosity
Games need to trust us to try things, and Baldur’s Gate 3 does.
Not only does it require a decent GPU to make everything look as intended, but also a good CPU for the number of possibilities, decisions, and consequences you’ll face. But what happens if you run Baldur’s Gate 3 on an old laptop? It would most likely struggle to get past the first loading screen, but if you lower all the settings, you might just be able to play a PS1 demake version of it.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Players Give Hilarious Suggestions For Running It On Outdated Hardware
Over on Reddit, onyxdk69 shared a few screenshots of just how terrible Baldur’s Gate 3 looks on their old laptop with an RTX1050 GPU. As you’d expect, the textures were clunky and a bit too smooth. They also mentioned that their poor laptop just couldn’t take anymore once act three started, thanks to all the NPCs on screen.
They mentioned that they ran the game with FSR off and on the lowest possible settings. Surprisingly, it ran at a pretty decent fps, but act three was when things really started chugging. It tooks textures over a minute to load in the city centre, which is much better than what I was expecting.
The comments started giving them some advice on how to improve the performance, with the most common one being to kill all the civilians. I suppose they’re all Dark Urge players. While that is a possibility, it seems unlikely that they’ll be able to complete act three in earnest. As one comment put it, “It’d be faster if they mailed you the frames in act 3.”
Many of the other comments were simply surprised that it even worked. “Honestly, bless them for making that thing run on your computer though for real,” said one player.
