Baldur’s Gate 3 Versus Mode Is Out Now, And It’s Easy To Install

Baldur’s Gate 3’s updates may have come to an end (outside of bug fixes, anyway), but that doesn’t mean we’re hurting for new content. The game has official mod support and an in-game mod catalogue, meaning you can download fan-made creations with a single click, rather than mucking around with game files yourself.

Now, we have another big fan creation on the official mod page, and it completely changes the way you play Baldur’s Gate 3. Versus Mode from mod.io user r786r786 lets you go up against your friends, as another human player takes control of enemies during combat.

This Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Gives Us A Multiplayer Versus Mode

“This mod is intended to be used in multiplayer with two or more players,” reads the mod’s description. “To use this mod correctly, have the host player spectate the other players until they enter combat at which point the host will be able to control the enemies on their turn.”

So, you’ll need to find your own combat encounters, but once you do, your opponents shouldn’t be controlled by AI. Rather, the host should be controlling them, letting any of the other players control the four-person party as usual. Essentially, the host becomes a DM for the combat encounter, able to use everything that an enemy NPC has at their disposal, which could make that battle even harder.

This is about as close as we’re going to get to a versus mode, anyway. The only alternative I can think of is switching to turn-based mode when you’re in a multiplayer session, and then having your player characters attack one another, in case you feel like giving up on your quest to take down the Absolute, and instead take down one another.

Since this mod is shared through mod.io, there’s a chance that it might be ported to console, too. The mod author hasn’t said whether or not this is something they’re targeting, but it’s been released through the official channels, so it’s a possibility. For now, it’s PC only, but incredibly easy to install.
