Battlefield 6 Confirms That Open Weapons Will Now Be The Norm

Battlefield 6 is now only three days away, so you can expect players to start queuing up anytime now. Jokes aside, the open beta test was quite successful, and may have already decided this year’s face off with Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. However, it had its fair share of complaints that the devs will be addressing before launch.

The campaign trailer wasn’t exactly what players expected, but very few play these games for the campaign anyway. Besides that, abnormally quick TTD, unbalanced vehicles, and a very random weapon unlocking system were all mentioned as part of the feedback. However, the biggest issue that long-time fans had was that Battlefield 6 is leaning towards an open weapons system.

Dice Confirms That Open Weapons Is The Way Forward For Battlefield 6

A closed weapons system means that players are restricted to weapons that each class would use. Support would use LMGs, assault would use assault rifles, and so on. But open weapons means that you’ll be able to choose any weapon you want, essentially making the class system quite pointless. A recent blog post by Dice has confirmed that this will now be the norm moving forward.

“Comparing between Open and Closed Weapon playlists we observed mostly identical class pick rates with 1-2% difference at most,” said the blog post. The post shared a lot more stats to show why Battlefield 6 will be favouring the open weapons format. It noted that the open weapon format featured more kills per hour, a shorter match duration, and fewer revives.

“Another key insight from the Open Beta was that the vast majority of players, after trying both playlist types, chose to stick with Open Weapons. This reinforces our belief that Open Weapons is the right path forward for Battlefield 6.”

However, it noted that the closed weapons format will be a mutator in Portal mode, so those who prefer to play with it can create their own formats. Apart from that, the blog post noted improvements to the movement, the UI will be clearer, recoil for various weapons has been adjusted, and certain gadgets have been improved.
