The Battlefield 6 grounded skin discourse just keeps going. After appeasing fans by announcing that the game will not feature silly cosmetics like Call of Duty, Dice immediately disappointed them with a bright blue skin in season one. As you can imagine, the backlash was severe, which has now prompted the devs to tone down the colours.
Dice recently partnered with 5.11, a tactical clothing brand, to help diversify the cosmetics in Battlefield 6, while keeping them grounded. It now appears that some of the brightly coloured skins are getting toned down. While the infamous bright blue skin is still unchanged, some of the others are being tweaked.
Battlefield 6 Is Fixing Brightly Coloured Cosmetics
While the bright blue Wicked Grin skin was the focal point of fans’ fury, there were a few other skins that featured some spots of bright colouring. Among those is the System Override skin, which featured some bright green piping and layers. Fans were branded it an unofficial collaboration with Monster before the green colour was made much darker.
Personally, I feel the bright colours we’ve seen so far are still okay by themselves, but they could have possibly been a gateway into something atrocious. And once you’re on that track, it’s just a few steps until Nicky Minaj is bringing down skyscrapers with a rocket launcher. I suppose the fans were worried about this as well, hence the strong backlash.
Fans on Reddit seem pretty happy with this move, especially since it means the devs are listening to the community. However, they probably won’t celebrate till the bright blue coloured elephant in the room is addressed.
While I do think that there’s only that much you can do with “grounded” military skins before they all start looking the same, Dice’s partnership with the tactical clothing brand could afford the devs some more sources of inspiration. Soon it may become a question of how many camos you can add to a certain outfit.
