The majority of the STS 2 mods on offer are things that we fully expect to see added to the Slay the Spire 2 roadmap as we get closer to the full release. There are also several difficulty-related mods in case you find the card game too hard, and we’re already seeing new heroes being added to the list of Slay the Spire 2 characters. The Watcher
As the only omission from the original cast, lamali has answered the prayers of millions of players with The Watcher mod, bringing the mystical monk to the new game. Complete with all of her classic animations, cards, and stance mechanics, every element that made The Watcher into the overpowered character she was in the first game are back.
The Watcher can be used in both single-player and multiplayer, though the creator points out that there may be some bugs regarding some multiplayer interactions. While we’re hoping The Watcher makes her way to the sequel at some point during the road to the 1.0 launch, this certainly fills a void for now.
BetterSpire2 (QOL)
BetterSpire2 is an all-in-one mod, courtesy of JDR, that bundles several quality-of-life tweaks together that you can toggle during gameplay. The mods range from helpful additions like a damage counter that eliminates the need to do any mental arithmetic, to the ability to restart fights with a single button press.
There are two versions of the mod on offer: Full and Lite. Lite only contains QoL features like the incoming damage counter and multi-hit damage totals. Full includes all of the above and lets you tweak the difficulty, restart fights, kick players from multiplayer matches, and auto-confirm certain card options.
Damage Meter
If you’re ready to point the finger at that Ironclad user who refuses to heal whenever you land at a rest site, now you can shame them with cold hard proof. Inspired by the iconic Skada Damage Meter mod in World of Warcraft, PiPiFanDev has created a similar Damage Meter mod for Slay the Spire 2.
This is a multiplayer-focused mod, giving your party an overview as to who has been doing what. The combat analysis HUD lets you pick from 17 stat categories, including damage dealt, assist block, and card efficiency, helping you identify who has been pulling their weight.
Undo and Redo
Slay the Spire can be unbelievably unforgiving at times, with one small error potentially leading to your eventual demise. To learn from your mistakes, you can try out the UndoAndRedo mod from Jiesi Luo, giving you the ability to rewind the clock before you make any fatal mistakes. This mod takes a snapshot of what your game looks like before you make an action, e.g. using a potion or playing a card, so you can go back to the specific event that caused you problems.
It’s worth pointing out that this mod doesn’t work in multiplayer, so don’t go using it when you’re playing with your mates. Of course, you could just read one of our character guides on, say, The Ironclad or The Silent if you wanted to learn the strategies used by high-level players, but this is a great option, too.
Act 4 Placeholder
We all know a fight with The Architect awaits us in Act 4, but if you can’t wait until the Slay the Spire 2 release date to test your might, then you should check out the Act 4 Placeholder mod from iKenster. In this additional act, players won’t need to collect anything on the journey to the main boss, instead you’ll be given the option to proceed directly to the main man.
Chances are that The Architect will likely be even more difficult than this when he does arrive, but this is a nice little training session before he arrives. Additionally, if your friends load up the mod, you can tackle the final boss in multiplayer together.
Slay With Controller
Though our preference is to play with a mouse, there are times when you just want to sit down on a comfy couch and enjoy the game with a controller. The base game does feature controller support, but it’s lacking several key additions like shortcuts to helpful areas and vibration, all of which Caelus has added in their Slay With Controller mod.
Anyone who has played the game using a controller knows how annoying it is to view your relics during combat, but with this mod, you can access that area with the press of a button. Arguably the best QoL tweak is the ability to hide card tooltips directly from your controller – this problem plagues controller users because the cards will regularly block the view of the enemy’s health bars. You can use this mod in multiplayer, but you need to ensure all of your friends have downloaded it, even if they aren’t using it.
Remove Multiplayer Player Limit
We already find it difficult to pull together four competent players for a co-op run, but if you’re in the very fortunate position of having too many people to group up with, then the Remove Multiplayer Player Limit mod from Rain_G is for you. By removing the player limit from the game, you can take on all three acts with up to 16 people. At this moment, this mod doesn’t feature any scaling, so once you start adding more players, it will only be as difficult as it was with four players.
Unified Save Path
Concerned about running mods because you don’t want to lose all your progress? Jiesi Luo’s UnifiedSavePath mod places your regular and modded saves in the same directory, ensuring your character unlocks, epoch progress, and run history are shared. Be warned, this mod merges your saves together, so this may cause issues if you ever want to play the non-modded version again.
