Boruto: Two Blue Vortex awaits the release of Chapter 38, scheduled for October 20, 2026. With each passing chapter, the fate of planet Earth looks more grim. Currently, the biggest threats on the planet are Shinju, Jura, and Hidari, with Code lurking about as well. Previously, Naruto Uzumaki, the Seventh Hokage of Konoha, stood as the protector of the planet as its strongest shinobi. Now it’s been 3 years since his absence, and Earth needs a new protector.
Boruto Uzumaki, Naruto’s son, rises as the new strongest on planet Earth, who is willing to put his life on the line to defend everyone. He is going to play a significant role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 38 and the subsequent chapters that follow in the post-Mamushi arc as well.
Mikio Ikemoto Officially Establishes Boruto Uzumaki As Earth’s New Strongest Ninja
The strongest in the world of Boruto have undergone significant change over the years. At the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto Uzumaki was the strongest shinobi left standing, with Sasuke Uchiha as his only equal. However, in the Boruto era, things changed drastically with the introduction of many powerful Otsutsuki, such as Momoshiki and, later down the line, Isshiki. What’s worse, this new era of Boruto saw the downfall of the two strongest, as a new era was being ushered in. Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha were both powerful, but they ended up losing their abilities in this new era, which paved the way for the next generation to take the initiative themselves.
“There, I’ve blocked your pesky space-time ninjutsu [Rinnegan]. There’s no escape for you now. It’s the second time I’ve manifested. It sure is nice being free.” – Momoshiki Otsutsuki destroys Sasuke’s Rinnegan, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter #53
In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Chapter 53, released on December 20, 2020, in V-Jump Issue 2, Sasuke lost his Six Paths powers when his Rinnegan was stabbed by Momoshiki. Similarly, in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Chapter 55, which was officially released on February 19, 2021, in V-Jump Issue 4, Naruto lost access to Kurama and, with it, his Six Paths powers as well. With both Naruto and Sasuke being downgraded in terms of power, Planet Earth needed better protection against future threats, such as Code and whatever else would follow.
“The price to pay for Baryon Mode is my life, not yours. I’ve got to go, but be real careful. You aren’t gonna have superhuman strength anymore. So if you overdo it, you’ll end up joining me soon. But until that day comes, you be well, Naruto.” — Kurama dies, Boruto Chapter #55
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, this new protector has now been confirmed to be the son of the Seventh Hokage, Boruto Uzumaki. When Boruto returned from the 2-year time skip, it was clear to see that he was monstrously powerful. A glimpse of his abilities was given to us when he engaged the Shinju in combat in Boruto Chapter 4 on November 20, 2023. His abilities were once again shown in the battle against Jura. Finally, in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 28, he entered a pact with Momoshiki, which pushed his overall power level even further.
In Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 37, released officially on September 17, 2026, as part of the 10th volume of the series, the young Uzumaki went on to upgrade his Flying Thunder God ability even further. This expanded his skill set and made him more dangerous than ever before. All things considered, out of all the defenders of Planet Earth, Boruto is quite clearly the strongest of the lot right now and has done incredibly well to fill in the space left behind by his father Naruto.
“I can feel it. I can sense Sarada’s chakra. Is she telling me to use it to sense her other earring and teleport to her? Talk about rash! It’s possible in theory, but the level of difficulty would be incomprehensibly high!” — Boruto prepares to teleport to Sarada, Two Blue Vortex Chapter #37
Why Boruto Will Surpass Both Naruto And Sasuke By Adulthood
It is quite evident that Boruto Uzumaki is already one of the strongest ninjas of all time. Whereas Naruto and Sasuke were on top of their game at the beginning of the Boruto series, things changed drastically moving forward. Right now, Boruto Uzumaki has done incredibly well to stand as their replacement, and his powers are still growing as things stand. When compared to the Six Paths version of Naruto and Sasuke, Boruto is quite clearly stronger already. He has acquired immense training, great experience, and knowledge of jutsu from Sasuke Uchiha, which he has incorporated into his skill set incredibly well.
Boruto: Master, what do you think? I’ve mastered the Uchiha Style pretty well now, right?
Sasuke: True. This past year, I suppose I’ve taught you almost all the moves and methods I know.
— Sasuke praises Boruto, Two Blue Vortex Chapter #5
At the same time, under the guidance of Kashin Koji, Boruto was able to learn a lot of exciting powers in a very short span of time due to the ability to view the future from multiple timelines. When Boruto returned in Two Blue Vortex, it was quite clear that he was way above the likes of Code in terms of strength, who himself was stronger than Jigen. Quite clearly, Boruto already surpassed Six Paths Naruto and Sasuke at this point. When he entered a pact with Momoshiki, his powers increased even further, given that he gained access to two stages of Karma. Boruto isn’t done growing yet. His powers are going to grow even further moving forward, and we are incredibly excited to witness him gaining more abilities. Boruto Uzumaki is not stronger than Baryon Mode Naruto as things stand, and that will be the target for him by the end of the series.
Boruto’s Potential To Go Beyond Baryon Mode
Among all the powerful displays that we have seen in the Boruto series to date, Naruto Uzumaki’s Baryon Mode remains the best. Baryon Mode was officially unleashed in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 52, released on November 20, 2020, in V-Jump Issue 2. This was an incredibly powerful ability that saw Naruto and Kurama use their chakra as kernels to create a completely new form of energy akin to nuclear fusion. The power that resulted was so impressive that it eclipsed that of Ishiki Otsutsuki by a significant amount.
“This is a completely different beast. The other modes involve taking chakra that you acquire from elsewhere and just using it. Here, yours and my chakra are used as raw materials to create a different form of energy, until both of our lives run out.” — Kurama explains Baryon Mode, Boruto Chapter #52
The only downside of Baryon Mode was the strict time limit that it put on Naruto Uzumaki, which is why he couldn’t finish off Isshiki by himself. Regardless, Baryon Mode Naruto is the strongest we have seen in the entire series, not including Shibai, who has never truly shown his strength on screen. Boruto Uzumaki’s aim is to protect his loved ones, and seeing him do so will eventually take him past Baryon Mode. If Boruto goes on to master Momoshiki’s powers fully and incorporate his own abilities in the process, then he surely stands a chance to surpass Baryon Mode. Whether he will be able to do that or not remains to be seen, but the potential for him to achieve that, as Earth’s new strongest, is certainly there.
All the chapters of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex by Mikio Ikemoto, supervised by Masashi Kishimoto, are available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
