Brand-New $9,800 Pokemon Release Officially Revealed

A brand-new Pokemon release has been officially announced, and it will cost fans an eye-watering $9,800 to get it. It’s not surprising to see a lot of new releases for the series in 2026, as it marks the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen ports were released on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, Pokopia came out, existing games got and are still getting events or promotions, and celebratory items come out every month. A good chunk of new Pokemon releases is merchandise and collectibles, but this doesn’t mean the items are any less exclusive.

A good example is a new Pokemon 30th anniversary release officially confirmed for December, and it’s a series of art books going over all generations of games with exclusive content, such as cut or changed designs and developer interviews. Then, there have been multiple rumors and leaks about Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire ports on Switch and Switch 2, so it’s possible that these games will be made available on modern consoles in the next few weeks. There is a lot to look forward to for Pokemon fans, though an upcoming release is priced at almost $10,000.

New Official Pokemon Release Costs Almost $10,000

Japanese gold company SGC has officially revealed a new Gholdengo statue made of pure 24K gold leaves, priced at 1.54 million yen, roughly $9,817 at the time of writing. The statue is 6 centimeters tall (roughly 2.3 inches) and is made from 15 grams of 24-karat gold (roughly 0.033 pounds). This Gholdengo statue is quite small and light, but still extremely expensive due to its composition, and it matches Gholdengo’s nature in the games, as it’s a Pokemon made entirely of gold coins. In order to get Gholdengo in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, fans need to collect 999 coins and then evolve their Gimmighoul with them.

Similarly, fans need to gather Gimmighoul coins to get Gholdengo in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. On top of that, Gholdengo’s signature move is Make It Rain, which showers enemies with gold coins, and its signature ability is Good as Gold, preventing opposing status moves from hitting it. As such, it makes sense to see a pure gold statue of Gholdengo as an official Pokemon release, but its price makes it one of the most exclusive collectibles in the series. Currently, on display at a Tokyo exhibition are also a life-size version of the Gholdengo statue and one dedicated to Pikachu, both made of pure 24K gold. By comparison, the life-size version of Gholdengo is 120 cm tall, and the Pikachu statue is 40 cm tall, around 3.9 feet and 1.3 feet, respectively.

The small Gholdengo statue will be available for purchase until October 26 in Tokyo; then SGC will move the exhibition elsewhere, and the statue will be purchasable there. More releases for Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary will become available in the coming months, including new official designs for Mew and Mewtwo in a collection box for Pokemon TCG.

However, The Pokemon Company is shutting Pokemon Bank down in 2027, and no replacement has been announced. While a new Home update allows Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen players to get a free Celebi, Pokemon Home will not be compatible with pre-Switch games. This will make cross-generation transfers impossible unless a new app or additional compatibility is released.
