Campaign Evolved Fans Feel It Changes Forerunner Architecture Too Much

Most of us are still reeling from the fact that a Halo game is launching on PlayStation. Just a few days ago, we learnt that Halo: Campaign Evolved, a full remake of Combat Evolved, will launch on PS5, with completely revamped visuals and improved gameplay. Now that the dust has settled, fans have begun breaking down the trailer.

It doesn’t really show much apart from the current-gen visuals, character models, and tighter gameplay, but it surely looks like a remake that will stay faithful to the original. While the devs did say that certain segments will be tweaked to improve the experience, it seems some fans think the remake has changed too much.

Halo Campaign Evolved Completely Changes Forerunner Architecture

One of the biggest changes that you may notice is the style of the Forerunner architecture. The blocky, time-worn structures now look sharp, sleek, and shiney. While it doesn’t really make a difference in gameplay, it does change the vibe from the original. If the aim of the remake was to capture the nostalgia of Halo: Combat Evolved, this change in architectural design takes away from it.

A Reddit post by Delta4907 talked about how drastic the change is in the architecture. Not only are they visually different, but the entire style and layout of some structures have been remade. Some fans already brought this up when Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary launched, and the trailer for Campaign Evolved suggests more such drastic changes.

“The biggest issue I’ve seen is the Forerunner architecture,” says the post. “The remake completely changes the profile of the structures and makes them sleek and shiny/metallic looking, whereas the original was very brutalist and weathered looking, almost like stone.”

The comments too mentioned that the structures from Campaign Evolved look too clean, as opposed to the original. The original design was, of course, a product of its time, so the remake’s version would undoubtedly look much cleaner. But perhaps the devs could have done a little more to maintain the original architectural style.
