This post contains spoilers for Solo Leveling.

Summary

  • Sung Jinwoo was chosen by the System due to his tenacity and ability to survive life-threatening situations.
  • Jinwoo’s powers cannot be taken away, as evidenced by his victory in the Double Dungeon arc.
  • The Architect tried to disable the System to strip Jinwoo of his powers, but failed when the Shadow Monarch intervened.

Sung Jinwoo is the main lead of Solo Leveling. By the end of the series, he was superior to almost every character. However, Jinwoo wasn’t always strong. In the beginning, he was nothing but a weakling who couldn’t handle the weakest dungeons on his own. Jinwoo was an E-rank Hunter, and he was the weakest in the class. The Double Dungeon incident changed his life for the better. But can his powers be taken away?

Why Was Sung Jinwoo Chosen By The System?

As previously stated, Sung Jinwoo was an E-rank Hunter, so it doesn’t make sense for the System to pick him, especially when there were better and stronger Hunters. Jinwoo was chosen because of his tenacity. He kept on surviving and overcoming life-threatening situations. His will to persevere impressed Ashborn so much that he decided to make him the vessel.

Fans have seen how the other Hunters behave whenever the going gets tough. They cower in fear and lose their ability to think rationally. On the other hand, Sung Jinwoo was able to think under duress and save the lives of his allies, who were much stronger than him.

Can Sung Jinwoo Lose His Powers?

Sung Jinwoo Reaches Level 100 – Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- Episode 13

Since Jinwoo obtained his powers in an erratic fashion, fans have many questions related to them. The biggest of these queries is whether Jinwoo can lose his powers. The answer is no. It is almost impossible for Sung Jinwoo to lose his powers, and it becomes clear in the Double Dungeon arc. After reaching level 100, Jinwoo received the key to the Cartenon Temple, which is where his journey started. This event was covered in the second season, but it didn’t show Jinwoo going to the temple. The hero’s journey to the Cartenon Temple or the Double Dungeon will be covered in the third season, so fans who want to avoid spoilers should turn away.

When Jinwoo went to the Double Dungeon, he met the Architect of the System. He was in charge of designing the System, so he knew everything about it.

At last you have arrived. —The Architect to Jinwoo

Shortly after Jinwoo’s arrival, the Architect put him through a test. He ordered the statues to the Hunter to check his strength. Jinwoo had absolutely no trouble dispatching the enemies, including the Statue of God. After vanquishing the enemies, Jinwoo tried asking the Architect for answers related to the System, but the latter refused, as he had one more obstacle to overcome.

Jinwoo’s Biggest Test Was Beating The Architect

  • The Architect invited Sung Jinwoo to the dungeon
  • He tried to take away Jinwoo’s powers

The Architect disclosed that Jinwoo had to beat him within 10 minutes, or he would die. As the fight started, it became clear that Jinwoo was at a disadvantage. The Architect was dominating the proceedings, and Jinwoo had no answers. Thankfully, Jinwoo had a lot of experience overcoming similar situations, so he ended up winning with just over two minutes left. Following his victory, Kandiaru wasted no time in putting the hero in a trance-like state. It was during this time that Jinwoo learned about the Shadow Monarch and the battle between the Monarchs and the Rulers.

Kandiaru was confident that the Shadow Monarch would take over Jinwoo’s body, but he was in for a shock. While Jinwoo was still in a trance, the Korean Hunters entered the dungeon and tried to rescue him. Kandiaru was impressed with the Hunters, so he decided to offer them as sacrifices to the Shadow Monarch. However, Jinwoo woke up at the right time and saved them.

The Architect Could Have Taken Away Jinwoo’s Powers

The Architect was shocked that Jinwoo maintained his sentience. So, he decided to stop him by disabling the System, and had he been successful, Jinwoo would have likely lost all his powers. Unfortunately for the Architect, the Shadow Monarch had locked him out of the System. Kandiaru knew that he couldn’t do anything but rage before finally being cut down by Sung Jinwoo. This was the only time that Sung Jinwoo could have lost his powers. Otherwise, there is no other way for him to lose them.
