Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sales Hit 8m on First Anniversary

Smash hit RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has hit another big sales milestone, which feels like a particularly appropriate way for the game to celebrate its official first anniversary.

That’s right: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched exactly a year ago today, and now, developer Sandfall Interactive has announced that the game has managed to sell eight million copies in that time.

The game has been going from strength to strength since release, at least in the sales stakes. It hit half a million sales in 24 hours, going on to rack up two million in under two weeks and hitting the rather auspicious milestone of 3.3 million in its first 33 days.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is still selling very well indeed.

That’s not the only way Sandfall is celebrating Clair Obscur‘s anniversary, though. A new update was also released today, and it adds new haircuts for the gang, as well as fixing a number of smaller issues.

News of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s latest sales milestone comes just a few months after the game received a major patch adding a new area to explore, plus lots more. Said patch was first teased last October, when the RPG sailed past the five million sales mark.

It also comes after the game took home three BAFTA awards, namely Best Game, Best Debut Game, and Performer in a Leading Role, earlier this month. It’s safe to say we’re still very much within Clair Obscur: Expedition 33‘s moment.

If you somehow haven’t heard of this one, it’s an homage to classic JRPGs that takes place in a dark fantasy world inspired by early 19th-century France. The story revolves around the mysterious Paintress, who is causing those at or above a certain age to die each year in an act known as the Gommage.

You can check out Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 right now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and you can read our Erren’s review here.
