While the feature has been taken for granted over the entire existence of video games as a medium, the announcement that Sony would stop printing physical discs come 2028 has led to developers using the fact that their game will offer a physical version as a point of marketing. One such game is Alien: Isolation 2 – with the team at Creative Assembly now confirming that the much-anticipated sequel is “staying true to the analogue nature of Alien” and thus “will have a physical edition.”
Taking to the game’s official Twitter page, the team at Creative Assembly published a brief video responding to what has become an all-important question: “Will Alien: Isolation 2 have a physical release?”
Sharing their mentality behind the sequel, the team claimed that “staying true to the analogue nature of Alien is one of our core pillars,” confirming that “Alien: Isolation 2 will have a physical edition.”
While a welcome announcement in and of itself, this confirmation has led to some fans wondering whether this means the sequel will arrive in 2027, given that Sony’s discontinuation of physical media kicks off in 2028.
Either way, it is encouraging to see both developers and players alike keeping the physical media discourse alive. Here’s to hoping that Sony is listening to the abundance of feedback.
