The penultimate episode of Daemons of the Shadow Realm is almost here, and fans aren’t sure where the series will land when the finale finally hits the small screen. The anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s popular dark fantasy manga series, currently published in Monthly Shonen Gangan, has captivated countless viewers with its likable characters and unique premise. Daemons of the Shadow Realm hasn’t reached the same heights as Arakawa’s magnum opus, Fullmetal Alchemist, but it has earned respect from audiences nonetheless, and as the ending fast approaches, many are hoping to see a happy ending to what has been a series packed with violence and regret.
In Episode 22 of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, fans were transported to the past for a glimpse at Asuma’s mother, Iori Shingo, who was rejected by her family after they discovered her Daemons, Yozakura and Asagiri. Gonzo was the first to recognize her ability, and the Kagemoris took her in, keeping her from committing suicide. In the present, Asa continues to fuss over her beloved brother, who was injured in his most recent battle. Yuru still doesn’t trust the Kagemoris, but Asa remains committed to them, as they saved her life in the past. It’s likely that viewers won’t know who to trust either until the dust finally settles during the finale.
When Does Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 23 Come Out?
Looks Like There Are Still Some Traitors Out There
Those living in Higashi Village don’t learn about Asa and Yuru’s secret until they come of age, after which they become full-grown members of the clan. Those who don’t accept it are sent down the mountain, where other clans may decide to learn more through violent means. In Episode 22, it was revealed that Ivan and Akio were working together in some way, leading the twins to believe that the bald man may know something about their parents after all. Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 23, “Emotion and Reason,” will be available to stream in Japanese with English subtitles on September 12, 2026, at 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EST.
The finale of Daemons of the Shadow Realm, Episode 24, will air on September 19, 2026.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm hasn’t reached the (perhaps unreachable) heights of Fullmetal Alchemist, but positive feedback has continued to flood review aggregators and social media since the show began in April, with the series currently sitting at 7.83 on MAL and 7.8 on IMDb. Its consistent animation quality and Arakawa’s signature style have proved to be major boons, as well as its slow-paced approach to storytelling, over-the-top violence, fun fight scenes, and memorable characters.
Yuru Has Friends in Low Places After All
Most of These Kagemori Guys Are Pretty Cool
Haruo is, understandably, wounded by the idea that Akio has to die. A traitor can’t be permitted in the Kagemori household, but that doesn’t make murdering an old friend any easier. Due to his inability to feel pain and his bizarre way of thinking, it’s possible that Akio survived the explosion, paving the way for the next two episodes and potentially a second season. Ivan may not be directly connected to Akio at all, and more details are required to know the extent of their so-called relationship. It’s implied that another traitor lurks within the Kagemori household, but viewers will just have to wait and see if this is the truth.
