the did consider remake one but said it was decided that it would affect the foundation of the franchise too much

my whole theory is that 2×2 takes place after sdr2 and dr3, hence it being "danganronpa 4." My idea is that its an entirely new neo world program with ai copies of everyone. it explains the changes we see. the scenario plays out as usual, if it doesn't diverge, the exact events play out as they did in sdr2. the new scenario, however, recontextualizes that. the despair of the scenario is that the ai can never escape the killing game, fated to continuously reset. it means all important characters (hajime, nagito, chiaki) can die off to lead to other characters getting the spotlight. the ending of the new scenario is up in the air, but they can either take over robots or take over the simulation itself to live in a true paradise.
I just need mahiru and Sonia to survive (sonia is most likely going to die, but I KNOW that mahiru will play a strong part.)
my prediction:
Chapter 1 victim: Hajime.
Chapter 1 culprit: Nagito.
Protag role gets switched to Chiaki.
Chapter 2 victim: Fuyuhiko.
Chapter 2 culprit: Mahiru.
Chapter 3 victims: Akane & Nekomaru.
Chapter 3 culprit: Gundam.
Chapter 4 victim: Teruteru.
Chapter 4 culprit: Kazuichi.
Chapter 5 victim: Peko.
Chapter 5 culprit: byakuya. (Aka the ultimate imposter)
Mastermind: Izuru.
Sacrifice: Sonia.
Survivors: Chiaki,Mikan,Hiyoko,and ibuki.
i think one thing everyones forgetting is that each game uses a very common ending trope. its actually the end of the world, its all a game, its all a show…so i can imagine theyre going to roll with something like that. another very used trope like that.

Apart from which characters die and survive, I hope that they'll use the gameplay of Argument armament instead of panic talk action. Plus made it that rebutal showdown lines weren't interupted when cut.

I really hope they give hiyoko an actual redemption arc instead of killing her at the beggining of what was supposed to originally be her character development, also, kazuichi, akane and sonia are NOT surviving another killing game✌️
I think a main plot point is the Fuyuhiko dying ins some regard (like the original intended)
Would be interested to see the dynamic of Peko handling that as the opposite
Know how I think this new scenario could start? Just to spitball? Nagito successfully kills Hajime in chapter 1. Leading to a protag switch in (maybe even!) an inverse of v3's twist of PROTAG CHIAKI. Because I think that would be DOPE AS HELL.
Also another thought that I had that I think would be dope; chapter 3 double murder of Sonia eliminating Teruteru and Kazuichi.
I don't really see Danganronpa 2×2 as a remake, even though the original scenario is included. It's abundantly obvious that the selling point of the game is this new alternate story. Also, I don't think this is a series retcon, like most people believe it is. The original story path's inclusion still retains the continuity of the Kodaka timeline; rather, this game is where the plots of these two separate stories converge, meeting at the same point, and then diverge, creating two different paths going in opposite directions, which is the same exact way that you draw an X. Still this is definitely DR4, not because it fits chronologically but just because it's the fourth released game in the series.
My current theory is that the event that sets off a different story is the stray bullet that hits Hajime during Monomi's executions kills him. It would also explain the empty seat next to Mahiru.
