Darkest Dungeon 2 PlayStation Release Confirmed for July

Red Hook Studios has announced that Darkest Dungeon 2 will be coming to PlayStation consoles later this year.

In a press release, the developer says that the bleak dungeon-crawler will head to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on July 15th, and it’s available to pre-order on both platforms right now.

As well as the base game, The Binding Blade, a DLC pack that adds two new heroes and a roaming boss, will also be available for purchase on PlayStation on the same day. The Oblivion Edition bundle, which will let you buy the game and all of its DLC together, will also be up for grabs.

Presumably, the massive Kingdoms update, which was announced last week and which will come to Darkest Dungeon 2 later this year, will also be available on PlayStation.

Said update will add an entirely new campaign mode to Darkest Dungeon 2, blending elements of the second game’s combat and exploration with the first game’s hero management and town upgrade system.

Excitingly, Darkest Dungeon 2 will also take advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback feature, subtly vibrating to the rhythm of a hero’s heartbeat when they’re on Death’s Door or mimicking the stagecoach’s wheels rumbling.

The PlayStation 5 version of Darkest Dungeon will feature some subtle extra controller touches.

If you’re not familiar with Darkest Dungeon 2, it’s the sequel to Red Hook’s 2016 dungeon-crawler Darkest Dungeon.

The followup eschews the town management and randomly-generated heroes of the original game, choosing instead to focus on bespoke heroes with predetermined identities and goals.

Rather than delving into themed dungeons, this time you’re travelling the world in a stagecoach, with Darkest Dungeon 2 taking on a much more roguelite-style progression system.

You can grab Darkest Dungeon 2 right now on PC, where it’s available via either the Epic Games Store or Steam. The game comes to PlayStation consoles on July 15th. Be sure to check out our Darkest Dungeon 2 guides if you need some help navigating its dark and hopeless world.
