Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sales Top 2.5 Million, Series Sales Soar

Capcom has revealed that open-world RPG Dragon’s Dogma 2 has crossed a major sales milestone in less than two weeks.

In a press release, Capcom announces that Dragon’s Dogma 2 sales have topped 2.5 million, which is a pretty impressive number considering the game has only been on release for twelve days (at time of writing).

By way of explanation for the game’s high sales, Capcom points to its marketing initiatives, which include the free character creation app released prior to the game’s launch, as well as a trailer starring none other than American Gods‘ Ian McShane.

Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s idiosyncratic approach to open-world RPGing has paid off.

Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s sales figures, when added to the sales of the original (and its Dark Arisen re-release), bring the series’ cumulative sales total up to over 10 million.

It looks like the Dragon’s Dogma games aren’t quite as niche as many seem to think, although Capcom’s marketing push prior to Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s release will certainly have helped things along.

If you’re not familiar with Dragon’s Dogma 2, it’s the sequel to the 2012 cult classic RPG Dragon’s Dogma, as well as its 2017 re-release Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, which adds new content and quality-of-life improvements.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 once again tells the story of the Arisen, although things are a little different this time around.

While the game features many concepts and enemies that appeared in the original Dragon’s Dogma, it’s set in a different land and tells a different story.

You’ll once again take up the mantle of the Arisen and hunt for a dragon, but along the way, you’ll deal with political intrigue, monster infestations, and more.

Shortly after Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s launch, the game was criticized for what many players saw as overabundant microtransactions, as well as a host of technical issues and glitches.

Capcom subsequently pledged to fix many of the most pressing issues (although the microtransactions are here to stay, it seems). The studio released the game’s first major update, which adds a New Game option and more, last week.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is available right now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can read our review of the game here, and you can check out our guides to help you through its weighty fantasy world below.
