The Dune franchise has a new surprise for fans ahead of Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming movie. The popular survival game set on Arrakis is getting a free expansion.
Funcom’s Dune: Awakening will receive a free expansion, Blood and Ice, on December 1, 2026. The expansion takes players to the frozen northern region of Arrakis. It will introduce Polar Sink, a new survival map. The new region will challenge players to apply the survival skills they have learned in the desert.
Unlike Arrakis’ scorching desert, Polar Sink will require players to find ways to stay warm. They will need new gear, resources, and strategies to survive the cold.

Dune: Awakening is getting bigger as Funcom responds to player feedback
Dune: Awakening’s Blood and Ice expansion emphasizes survival, with traversal, temperature management, and combat playing key roles in progression. The expansion will add around 35 hours of progression content to the open-world game. It will also introduce new vehicle modules, augments, and specialization traits.
Funcom has also shared another huge update while acknowledging player feedback. For a long time, Fans have repeatedly requested three features: offline single-player mode, character transfers, and cross-play.
The developer has now confirmed that Dune: Awakening will introduce the offline single-player mode next month. It will allow players to enjoy the game without an internet connection.
In January 2027, players will be able to copy characters from multiplayer servers to single-player and from single-player to eligible private or self-hosted servers. In the same month, the full cross-play feature will also arrive. It will allow players on different platforms to play together.
Dune: Awakening’s Blood and Ice free expansion will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. To coincide with the theatrical release of Dune: Part Three, the game will soon introduce the cosmetic store. The store will offer a rotating selection of cosmetics inspired by the Dune films, including the upcoming installment.
