EA Reveals Restructuring Plans After Going Private – Including Layoffs

We’re still left in the dark how much EA’s investors affect the company’s prospects.

EA has shared a private letter where they explained to their employees the companies’ plans for the future.

They said this:

…we’ve taken a hard look at our business, how we operate, and what it will take to lead in this next era of interactive entertainment.

We’ve challenged assumptions, confronted hard realities, imagined new possibilities, and made deliberate choices in order to deliver exceptional experiences for our players and to drive sustained growth.

Outside of Bioware, EA outlined plans for their other studios and games:

  • Continued work on Battlefield and Apex Legends
  • An unannounced title by DICE and Respawn
  • The next Star Wars Jedi game and Marvel’s Iron Man
  • A new Fight Night
  • An open world US football game codenamed Project Gridiron
  • Maxis is pausing work on Project Lotus to focus on Project Evergreen

Finally, EA confirmed layoffs at skate game developer Full Circle.

While many were right to predict that EA’s leveraged buyout would lead to layoffs and studio closures, this does not match the scale of the original FUD. EA also hasn’t spoken on how Saudi Arabia’s real-life situation affects theirs, at least for now.
