When you’ve completed Forest Tier 1 in Megabonk, you’ll unlock several challenges for that stage. These can vary from fun ways to freshen up the experience to gruelling tests of your mettle. But if you push through, you’ll be rewarded with permanent Silver multipliers, as well as achievements/trophies that bring you closer to that coveted 100 percent completion.
One of those challenges is Pacifist, which developer Vedinad warns is “pretty fu**ing hard” – and they’re not wrong. You have to beat the stage boss without weapons, just tomes and items. But with the right strategy, and a willingness to hit restart a few times when that first minute doesn’t pan out, it’s more than doable.
Best Character For Pacifist
There are a couple of characters who are perfect for Pacifist, like Tony McZoom, with his Zap ability serving as a decent way to deal damage, but Athena is the most viable.
Athena is unlocked by getting the Thorms Tome to Level 9.
Thorns are crucial to Pacifist, allowing you to deal damage just by touching enemies, and Athena gains two per level thanks to her Lock in ability. Every second counts in this challenge, so having that head start is a huge help.
Best Tomes For Pacifist
The other key to completing the Pacifist challenge is boosting your survivability as much as possible, so that you can walk right into enemies and damage them with your Thorns – that means Shield, HP Regen, and Armour Tomes, turning Athena into a tank even without Aegis.
|
Tome |
Reason |
|---|---|
|
Thorns |
Thorns are vital for damaging enemies, but two per level won’t be nearly enough for the final boss. That’s where the tome comes in. |
|
Shield |
Walking into enemies will quickly drain your health, and the shield acts as a buffer so that you can kill more enemies without risking game over. |
|
Armour |
Armour will reduce your incoming damage by a set percent, which means that if your shield is depleted, you’ll have more room to escape. |
|
HP Regen |
Lifesteal isn’t as viable without weapons, but HP Regen is a good alternative that pairs well with Athena’s ability to deal more damage at lower health. |
Tips For Pacifist
Immediately kill the first few enemies that spawn. Then, focus on finding pots: these will be your best chance at levelling up in the first minute. You want the Shield Tome to be your first upgrade, so if it doesn’t appear, restart and try again.
Avoid any Greed Shrines, as these will only make the challenge more difficult.
It might be tempting to look for Shield upgrades at Charge Shrines, as well, but these offer very little in the way of protection. Instead, focus on armour, evasion, and HP regen, which will do far more to bolster your survivability.
Movement speed will also be incredibly useful, as even with upgraded Thorns, you won’t be dealing nearly enough damage to wipe out swarms. Instead, you’ll need to duck and weave past enemies, picking them off only when it’s safe – bunny hopping can be a major help here.
Lastly, it’s worth upgrading your powerup drop chance at Charge Shrines, too. If the final boss merges with a huge group of enemies, it becomes incredibly difficult to reach them without burning through your shield and leaving yourself exposed. Stopwatches and nukes can be a game-changer in these moments.
Best Items For Pacifist
Thorns is just one way to deal damage to enemies; items are likewise a good substitute for weapons in this challenge.
There are a few worth focusing on, and of course, having the Toggler unlocked will make it far easier to shape the loot pool, ensuring you get the best drops from chests. But you can also buy from a list of items at shady NPCs, or choose from a list at Moai Statues.
