This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
One Piece’s Elbaf arc has revealed a ton of exciting lore to the fans, especially concerning the World Government and the King of the World, Imu. When Elbaf first began, few expected Oda to introduce Imu directly as the main antagonist of the arc, but that’s exactly what has happened, and this sole decision has made Elbaf an incredibly intense arc.
Given that Imu is the main villain of One Piece’s Elbaf arc, it’s only natural that Oda reveals some lore about him to the fans, and that’s exactly what’s happened. While the vast majority of the secrets about Imu remain shrouded still, Oda has confirmed many exciting bits of information, such as Imu’s two biggest enemies in the One Piece world. One Piece chapter 1164 confirmed to the fans that Imu fears two characters more than anyone, and while one of them is Joy Boy, the other is the former King of the world, Davy D. Jones. These two are so powerful that their mention alone strikes fear in Imu, and it is because of them that Imu has gone to extreme lengths to snuff out their bloodlines.
Imu Fears Joy Boy And Davy Jones The Most
Both Rivaled Imu At Different Points In History
- Joy Boy’s Haki gave Imu shivers
- Davy Jones’s bloodline was nearly eliminated
In One Piece chapter 1164, Oda revealed to the fans that Rocks’s motivation for being the King of the World was simply to fulfill a promise to his ancestor, Davy Jones, and claim what was rightfully his in the past. According to the Rocks, Davy Jones was the King of the World long ago, before Imu took over.
Who do you fear more? Davy Jones, or Joy Boy? — Rocks D. Xebec to Imu
Somehow, Imu found himself in a position of power and took over the world with the help of the 19 other Kings. To this day, however, Imu fears the reemergence of Davy Jones, which is why he went on to erase the Davy bloodline to the best of his abilities and enslaved most of them.
Imu’s actions stem from fear. In One Piece chapter 1164, Rocks asked Imu who he feared more out of Davy Jones and Joy Boy. This is practically a confirmation of the fact that Davy Jones rivaled Imu and possibly even put fear into him. On the other hand, fans already know that Joy Boy put immense fear into Imu, and this was quite apparent from Imu’s reaction to his Haki in Egghead. Just a flash of Haki from Joy Boy made Imu scream in pain and tremble from fear. Undoubtedly, Imu fears both Joy Boy and Davy Jones the most.
Promises are made to be kept. — Rocks D. Xebec to Imu
Luffy And Blackbeard Could Team Up Vs Imu
Imu’s Defeat Could Be A Collaborative Effort
To beat Imu, one most certainly needs the Yami Yami no Mi and the Nika fruit. Rocks even implied himself that two specific Devil Fruits are needed to beat Imu, but neither Luffy nor Blackbeard has both of them. They do have one each and perhaps, fans will see them fight together to take down Imu in the Final Saga. Of course, Luffy and Blackbeard can never ally, given their history, but fans might truly get to see them fight a common enemy at the same time, acting as Joy Boy and Davy D. Jones in the modern era.
At the end of this day, Imu will have to fall, and if he does, Oda will likely then introduce Blackbeard as the true final villain of One Piece. If not, then the Will of Davy is doomed to fail and Blackbeard will also fall prey to Imu’s powers at some point in the Final Saga. It’ll all be revealed in due time, and all fans need is a bit of patience.
One Piece’s next chapter will be out this week. As usual, One Piece is going to drop on Sunday. In Japan, One Piece drops at 12AM JST on Monday. However, the vast majority of international readers will see the chapter available on November 2. Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
