Eiichiro Oda’s Newest Record Proves One Piece Is The Greatest Story Of All Time

The One Piece series is Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece creation that first started in 1997 and even now, almost 30 years later, is still serialized almost every single week in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Eiichiro Oda is known for breaking many records in the comic book and manga industry, and now, he has broken an even bigger record. Eiichiro Oda proves again why One Piece is one of the greatest stories of all time by becoming the number one highest-selling author with only a single published series. One Piece on its own has put Oda on the global radar.

When it comes to the best-selling manga series in the world, it’s no surprise to know that One Piece tops the list, and continues to dominate with no other series coming even remotely close. The series has held this record for over a decade now. At the moment, One Piece, with 113 volumes, has over 580 million sales. 580 million is a stupendous figure, and gives One Piece an average of 5 million sales per volume.

What’s even more surprising is that Oda has been able to keep the fans intrigued in his story with every single volume for the last 30 years. Keeping an audience captivated for decades is no easy job, and only the best authors of all time could achieve similar numbers.

One Piece’s Success Makes Oda The Best Selling Single Series Author

In the world of manga, Oda being the mangaka with the most sales is no secret. The series in second place, Doraemon, isn’t even remotely close, with only about half the sales of One Piece. However, when talking about published authors in general, Oda does have some competition. Much to the surprise of many, even there, he definitely shines in his own way. Right now, Eiichiro Oda is the highest-selling author of all time with only one published work. No author in the whole world comes close to Oda in terms of sales with a single published work. Indeed, while Oda still does not have as many sales as Rowling, given that she has more than one published work, it makes sense.

Oda has definitely achieved the impossible with One Piece, and over the next few years, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone if One Piece were to even surpass Harry Potter in overall sales. That is especially true as One Piece is only now starting to gain even more international recognition after being mostly popular just in Japan for decades. This popularization of One Piece is thanks to the increased quality of the One Piece anime, the One Piece live-action, and soon enough, the remake of the One Piece anime by WIT Studio. In general, anime and manga have become way more mainstream over the course of the last few years, and Oda’s One Piece has benefited greatly from that, given that it is widely considered the best that manga has to offer.

One Piece is only growing and it doesn’t seem that it’ll slow down any time soon. The One Piece manga itself still has at least 5-7 years to go. As it gets closer to the end, fans will only start getting more intrigued by this story. In fact, backlog sales and new readers in the Final Saga could push it way higher in sales. In the years to come, One Piece sales could come to surpass even the 700 million mark, which would truly be staggering. For now, One Piece will continue its brilliant Elbaf arc, which is a part of the Final Saga that’s set to conclude the story once and for all.
