This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.
While Deadlock fans have been eagerly awaiting the next patch for months at this point, Valve has officially dropped a major content update to the work-in-progress game that adds 6 new heroes, massive updates for its maps, new gameplay mechanics, quality-of-life features, and countless more.
Initially announced on Deadlock’s official Steam page, the newest City Never Sleeps update is by far the biggest update the game has seen since its development testing initially launched, which also introduces a limited-time event where players will be able to swap out weapons for upgraded ‘corrupted’ ones through a new merchant known as The Broker.
All 6 Heroes Coming In City Never Sleeps
Similar to the previous updates, the 6 new heroes being added to Deadlock as a part of City Never Sleeps will be released based on popularity votes over the next three weeks, which will see two Deadlock heroes released each week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:00 PM PST.
While we don’t know a whole lot about each character yet, we have official art and a few descriptive tags for each, which you can see here from left to right:
- Nurse Harrow — Strict, Terrifying, Savior
- Deadman Danny — Reckless, High-Flying, Explosive
- Baba — Cackling, Beady, Hexing
- Solomon — Strategist, Grandmaster, Checkmate
- The Rat King — Scrappy, Regal, Tenacious
- Violet — Ambitious, Nimble, Creative
You can already start voting for which characters you want to see added first simply by playing Deadlock itself, with the first release scheduled for October 2nd. After voting for which character you want added before a match starts, the winning team will then have theirs doubled, although you can also double your votes simply by winning your first Deadlock match in a day.
New York City Is Getting A Major Facelift
It isn’t just new heroes coming with City Never Sleeps either, as Deadlock’s map is getting an absolutely massive overhaul for just about every area, starting with the three main lanes. Each of the three major lanes will see neutrals replaced by a plethora of new enemy types themed after each area, while also adding several newly designed sub-areas for players to explore.
Each district is also getting new buildings and activities to do within them, like the high-risk Sunken area of Plaza or the Bell Tower in Chinatown.
In between the lanes will also be four themed districts, each with a distinct identity and haunts to fit them, such as the Theatre with its Stage Hands, Chinatown with Crabbage Pots and Festival Spirits, the Haunted Lot with Shrooms, and the Plaza district with Underhands.
Every New Gameplay Mechanic Coming To Deadlock
A plethora of gameplay changes are also coming alongside the new update, such as tough crates that require heavy melee attacks, new buff containers to break, Steam Vents for stealth, and healing snacks scattered around the map. The Broker is also a new merchant coming in the update that you can pay to swap your items for higher-tiered corrupted versions, adding benefits and negatives to change their effects.
These are far from the only changes coming to the game as well, as Deadlock’s newest patch adds countless features that make it feel like a completely different game, which include the following:
- Updated and detailed healthbars
- HUD enhancements
- Improved Stats
- Detailed event feed
- New Ping communication systems
- Hundreds of new voice lines for every hero
- Commending system
- Minimap location labels
- Updated Veil VFX
- Parry cooldown display
- In-World respawn timers
- Improved Trooper AI
- Custom hideout camera
- Expanded custom lobby with up to 8 spectators
- Overhead buff displays
- Post-game graph to track buffs
- Improved shop with easier building and sorting
- More accessibility features
- Advanced tracking tools
- More customizable settings
These aren’t even all of the new additions in City Never Sleeps either, with numerous other minor changes and additions that push Deadlock even closer to its full potential as a staple of the MOBA genre.
