Fallout 3 Remaster Announcement At Fallout Day Is Unlikely

Years before it was announced, the Oblivion remaster was leaked in an internal Bethesda roadmap that was accidentally shared unredacted by the FTC, but it wasn’t the only classic game mentioned.

Fallout 3 Remaster was also listed on the Title Release Schedule, though it’s worth noting that this document was already out of date when it first leaked in 2023. Games like The Elder Scrolls 6 were slated for Fiscal Year 2024, which ended last June, and some projects, like Dishonored 3 and the Ghostwire Tokyo sequel, have likely been cancelled amid huge cuts at the studio.

That being said, with the enormous success of Oblivion, it’s unlikely that Bethesda cancelled Fallout 3, only pushed it back. So, with Fallout Day rearing its head, fans have been speculating that Bethesda would finally announce the remaster, coinciding with the second season of the TV series. However, reputable leaker NateTheHate isn’t convinced: “I’d be very surprised if they make mention of it this early.”

NateTheHate said something similar earlier this year, in April, shortly after Virtuos accidentally revealed our first look at the Oblivion remaster. With its confirmation, many took that to mean that other projects on the Title Release Schedule may be confirmed soon, but NateTheHate stressed that “it’ll be a while before we see” Fallout 3.

That’s hardly surprising given that it was slated to launch in the same year as The Elder Scrolls 6, two years after Oblivion. If that timeline still holds, then we’re looking at a 2027 release at the earliest, and the Oblivion remaster was only announced mere weeks before launch. If Fallout 3 follows suit, we won’t hear anything for quite some time.

As for what we can expect during the showcase later this month on October 23, Bethesda simply stated that it will provide news “about existing Fallout games, community celebrations, and upcoming fan events”, likely with a focus on the TV series and Fallout 76’s upcoming expansion – Burning Springs. So, don’t hold your breath for the Fallout 3 remaster just yet.
