Fallout’s Todd Howard has no interest in becoming Bethesda’s version of Marvel cameo king Stan Lee

The second season of Amazon’s Fallout adaptation is due to air in just a couple of days time, but don’t expect to see Bethesda studio head Todd Howard popping up as a cameo.

Many creators and execs have enjoyed appearing in adaptations of their work, with the likes of Stan Lee often cameoing in Marvel films and shows during his time. Fans would look out for Lee cropping up, with his cameos becoming a rather charming addition to the Marvel cinematic universe and beyond.

But Howard isn’t interested in doing something similar for Bethesda in Fallout, though he’s been asked several times. “They’ve offered me a whole bunch, even in season one,” Howard told IGN, explaining he was “going to be in the sort of Dr. Strangelove Vault-Tec room, where they’re talking [about] all the experiments, and some other things.”

However, the studio head thinks he is best placed “behind the camera” rather than in front of it. “I said no to all of them so far,” Howard furthered, when asked if would perhaps consider being a victim of The Ghoul’s. “I don’t want to distract,” he said. “Everyone goes, ‘Oh, there’s Todd!'”

But, can he ever see himself being the Stan Lee of Bethesda, even one day? “Not at this time,” Howard replied.

The second season of Fallout is heading to Amazon Prime this week, on 16th December (that’s a day earlier than first announced). Along with returning faces like Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins, Macaulay Culkin and Kumail Nanjiani have joined the show for season two.

As for other Bethesda adaptations, Todd Howard recently told Eurogamer he “can’t rule in or rule out an Elder Scrolls thing in the future”.
