FBI Launch Investigation Into Theft Of 6,400 PSA Cards, Including Pokemon

PSA has confirmed that the Santa Ana police department and FBI are now investigating the October 13 theft of over 6,000 graded items, among them nearly 3,000 Pokémon TCG cards.

“Recovering every stolen item and returning it to its owner is our top priority. We’re working with local and federal law enforcement, and the investigation is ongoing,” the company explained. “We are working closely with law enforcement and fully supporting their efforts. We have provided investigators with video footage, shipment manifests, and item-level records, briefed them in person at our facility, and remain in daily contact.”

The assailants broke into a FedEx truck parked near PSA’s Santa Ana grading center, stealing more than 200 packages en route to their owners after being graded. The New York Times reports that the total value of the 6,451 stolen cards amounts to over $963,000, comprising sports, Pokémon, and other TCG.

PSA has deactivated the certification numbers of each stolen graded item and shared the list with marketplace sellers, auction houses, and digital commerce platforms to prevent the cards from being laundered.

While the FBI and police search for the stolen cards, PSA has “begun contacting affected customers and have refunded all grading fees associated with impacted orders.” It explained that the grading fee refunds are separate from, and will not reduce, compensation for stolen items.

“If your order shipped on PSA’s return label, our insurance applies. You can start the compensation process now, and payments are already going out,” the statement reads. “If your order shipped on your own return label, we will work directly with you on your order. A dedicated PSA team is working with each affected customer. If your order was submitted through a dealer, please contact them directly regarding your order.”

PSA urges those who may have information on the theft, or were affected, to contact the FBI LA office.
