First-person Soulslike ‘Valor Mortis’ is already profitable after just one week

While most AAA companies don’t consider their game to be a success until it has sold an arbitrary number of millions of copies, indie studios often have far more humble goals in mind. Such appears to be the case with One More Level – the studio behind the Ghostrunner series – who have now revealed that their newly-released first-person Soulslike Valor Mortis has broken even in its first week on the market.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the team at One More Level confirmed that within a week of its launch, the first-person Soulslike Valor Mortis has already pretty much turned a profit, writing:

“We are beyond proud to announce that @ValorMortis has officially reached a break-even point in just 7 DAYS! This incredible milestone wouldn’t be possible without YOU. Thank you for answering the Emperor’s call and believing in our vision!”

Representing the team’s most ambitious game so far, the rapid success of Valor Mortis is encouraging to see. In terms of the game itself, reception has been mostly positive, with many of its primary issues stemming from a mixture of bugs and balance problems – two things which should hopefully be fixed with time.

The Ghostrunner series proved that One More Level knows how to design compelling and replayable experiences, and so it is welcome to see their biggest title yet amassing both critical and commercial success.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Valor Mortis? Is it a step up from Ghostrunner? Which game do you think has the best first-person representation of souls-like combat? Let us know down below.
