Forza Horizon 6 Won’t Launch On PS5

Xbox has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 won’t be launching day one on PS5, as Turn 10 and Playground Games are working to bring it to that console “post-launch”.

For some time now, it’s been rumoured that the next Forza Horizon game would finally be listening to all of the fan demands and taking the series to Japan for the first time. Those rumours were pretty easy to believe considering how much has leaked regarding Forza Horizon 6, and we finally just had the official reveal.

Following an accidental leak mere hours before the official announcement, Forza Horizon 6 and its Japan setting were just revealed as part of Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 presentation. The short teaser didn’t reveal much about the game beyond that, but an interesting tidbit was just shared in a blog post focusing on the reveal.

Forza Horizon 6 Strangely Won’t Launch On PS5

You’ll Have To Wait For “Post-Launch” To Play On PlayStation

Shortly after Forza Horizon 6 was officially announced, Xbox Wire shared a blog post revealing more details about the Japan setting, including confirming the return of changing seasons and hinting at the game’s selection of cars. The most interesting part of the post can actually be found right at the end in a cliffnote.

After teasing that Forza Horizon 6’s gameplay will be showcased at some point in early 2026, the blog post reveals that Forza Horizon 6 isn’t going to be available on PS5 from day one. Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are “working together” to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PS5 “post-launch”.

Forza Horizon 6 will launch first on Xbox consoles and PC in 2026. With the excitement for this franchise on other platforms, Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios are also working together to bring Forza Horizon 6 to PlayStation 5 post-launch.

Considering how well Forza Horizon 5 did when it launched on PS5 this year, it’s a little strange that Xbox isn’t gunning for a launch across all consoles. It’s not really clear why Forza Horizon 6 isn’t being developed with that in mind, especially with so many Xbox games launching simultaneously on PlayStation.

Whether this is an isolated incident related to just Forza Horizon 6 or a sign of how Xbox is going to treat some of its bigger releases in the future isn’t clear, but if you’ve been dying to see the series head to Japan, you’re going to need an Xbox or PC to play at launch. Here’s hoping the gap between consoles isn’t too big.
