Developer and publisher BlackMill has announced the release date for Gallipoli, the upcoming fourth installment in its World War I shooter series, and it’s not too far away at all.
In a new post on Steam, the studio reveals that the Gallipoli release date is May 21st, with the announcement coming just a few days before Anzac Day (an event to which BlackMill says it wants to dedicate the accompanying release date trailer).
Anzac Day marks the day on which Australian and New Zealander soldiers landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkiye, marking the first major military action undertaken by soldiers from those territories (both of which were British Imperial dominions at the time).
Rather sweetly, BlackMill says a “small part” of its team is currently at Gallipoli in order to mark the Gallipoli Campaign’s anniversary and to pay their respects to “the soldiers from all sides who fought and died there”.
As for the game itself, if you’re a fan of BlackMill’s previous WWI-era games (namely Verdun, Tannenberg, and Isonzo), you’ll know what to expect; lots of historically-authentic shooting on accurately-rendered battlegrounds key to the Gallipoli Campaign.
Maps revealed for the game so far include the aforementioned Anzac Cove, as well as the V Beach, Ctesiphon, and Kut Al Amara, the latter two of which come from the game’s Mesopotamian campaign.
Of course, plenty of gameplay tweaks have also been introduced in order to make Gallipoli an even more historically-accurate shooter, so if you’re in the market for a World War I battlefield sim that respects its source material, your time has come.
You’ll be able to check out Gallipoli when it lands on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 21st. If the previous games in the series are anything to go by, you can also expect robust post-launch support and events in the months following release.
