The Game Awards are just around the corner, bringing us to the 12th consecutive year of celebrating the games industry with Geoff Keighly. While you can expect tons of awards and announcements to be dished out all through the night, did you ever wonder which game series has accumulated the most awards over the decade-plus span this show has been going on for?
Well, it turns out that there are quite a few series that have won many awards over the years, placing them in a league of their own compared to other series that may have been nominated loads of times, but never quite reeled in the award. While every game showcased at The Game Awards is undoubtedly top-tier, it takes something truly special to claim these many trophies!

Starting things off with a banger, we have Hellblade, which sees the emotional journey of Senua get the respect it deserves. With a total of five awards across both releases, there’s no denying how deeply fans and judges alike have resonated with the game’s narrative and Senua’s struggles.

Not a single nomination for Mafia, really?
And in both cases, Melina Juergens took home the Best Performance award for her stellar portrayal of Senua. Additionally, both titles received the award for Best Audio Design, which is unsurprising given how spectacular the sound is; it pulls you into the experience immediately and refuses to let go. Well deserved across the board!

Astro Bot is next in line, as it also snagged five awards throughout The Game Awards’ lengthy run. While it received only one award in 2018 for its superb Astro Bot Rescue Mission VR release, the remaining four were earned last year with its titular Astro Bot release on the PlayStation 5.
Everything from Game of the Year to Best Family was cleaned up by Astro Bot at the 2024 Game Awards, which could have been surprising to some viewers, given the steep competition. Nonetheless, this wonderful platformer deserves all the praise it received and more, as it is a remarkable experience from start to finish!

Ooooh, Elden Ring, one of the most fever-pitched releases in quite some time that actually delivered on its hype and pulled even non-Soulsborne fans into its magical and seemingly endless world. For those curious, Elden Ring also won five awards, which is quite impressive considering they all came from the base release, meaning its expansion didn’t play a part in raising its numbers.
Elden Ring is a one-of-a-kind release, and its Game of the Year win is more than enough proof of that. Going from the Most Anticipated a year before actually sticking the landing is only something FromSoftware can pull off, and we’re delighted to see millions of others have that ‘ah-ha!’ moment for the first time as they become obsessed with the genre, just as we did many years ago!

Following that, we have The Legend of Zelda series, which has a remarkable six awards total throughout the history of Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards. Speaking of companies that have the ‘it’ factor to win the Most Anticipated award, only to come back the following year and pick up Game of the Year, Nintendo is one of them, as they did precisely that with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
While they also scooped up Most Anticipated with Tears of the Kingdom as well, they fell a bit shy when it came to GOTY the year following, but still managed to get Best Action/Adventure, which is saying something, as that category was fierce that year. This series is something special, and Nintendo keeps knocking it out of the park with it!

Another series with a massive six awards is Baldur’s Gate, with all six of them coming from Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3, a game that likely needs no introduction. In the year of its release, this game won five awards, only to return the following year for the Best Community award (an award it’s up for again this year, by the way).
Baldur’s Gate 3 is remarkable from start to finish and is a labor of love for fans of the series and genre, as well as newcomers. The game’s massive world, fascinating characters, and intense focus on player freedom and expression are unmatched, making it worthy of all the praise it’s gotten since it launched!

Ready for a bit of a curveball? What if we said Overwatch has a total of seven awards from The Game Awards? Did that shock you as much as it did us? Now, that’s not to say that Overwatch is a bad game or anything, but you rarely see multiplayer-only titles receive this level of love and praise, especially at award shows.
Not only did it clean up the year it launched, taking home even the coveted Game of the Year award, but it would repeatedly be back in the mix, taking home Best Ongoing and Best Esports titles years later. While it has since been a bit quiet, especially since the launch of Overwatch 2, there’s no denying how unique and exhilarating the original Overwatch was when it first released!

A bit of an interesting one here, as the Forza series overall has a whopping eight awards, with five coming from the Forza Horizon series, and the other three coming from the Forza Motorsport series. While we can argue semantics all day about whether they should be counted separately, those numbers are still impressive for racing games.
At the end of the day, Forza, as a whole, took home eight awards from The Game Awards, and we think that’s incredible. Despite most of its awards coming from the Sports/Racing and Sound Design categories, it’s not like those categories are freebies. Forza is a remarkable series, and the Horizon titles are easily among the best games out there. We couldn’t be happier to see it get the recognition it deserves!

God of War is ready to throw down, having earned an unbelievable eight awards between its unforgettable 2018 ‘soft-reboot’ and 2022’s Ragnarok. While God of War Ragnarok won the most awards out of the two, its stellar reboot took home the big one, winning Game of the Year over juggernauts like Red Dead Redemption 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Monster Hunter World.
Seeing such a beloved series return without fumbling the bag was, to say the least, relieving. When everyone saw how much heart and soul went into every inch of these titles, they were instantly solidified as instant classics. God of War (2018) and Ragnarok flesh out Kratos’ character expertly while maintaining everything that made the earlier games excellent, and that’s why these titles took home so many awards!

Speaking of series that deserve nothing but the best, we have The Last of Us, which has won a massive eight awards over the years. While you may think that would be obvious considering how massive the first installment was, this only includes The Last of Us Part 2, as The Game Awards wasn’t a thing when this deeply depressing, yet incredible series started.
So, from its Most Anticipated win back in 2017 to its dominant launch year in 2020, where it took home seven awards, The Last of Us Part 2 single-handedly carried this series toward the top of the list. Can you imagine how many awards it would have had if this show had existed just one year prior? And, no. The Spike Video Game Awards, or the VGXs with Joel McHale, do not count!

Closing things out, we have a bit of a surprising turn of events, as the Final Fantasy series has a staggering nine awards total across the many years The Game Awards has been running. Even with Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth being phenomenal titles, their odds of winning the massive titles were always less than ideal, so how is this possible?
Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14? Yup. That phenomenal MMORPG, which has a free trial, has won four awards alone, with Remake, Rebirth, and even 16 cleaning up the rest with ease. Again, we adore all of these titles with our whole hearts, but we did not anticipate this when we started this fun look down memory lane. Now excuse us as we anxiously wait for Part 3!
