For the Tales of Transformation season, the switch timer reduced from 50s → 45s in GBL (also applies to friend battles, Team GO Rocket, and team leader battles).
This is a trial for Season 24; Niantic will re-evaluate next Season.
This change up has potential to make a major impact on the meta! Faster cycles increase counter-swap pressure and reduce stall time. Expect more aggressive safe-swaps, earlier shield commitments, and more frequent use of self-debuff moves, since players can now reset the debuff with fewer consequences while still hitting harder than standard attacks.
This is the part of the announcement that players look forward to most, as it reveals whether fan-favourite Pokémon in the meta will be receiving changes. It’s always interesting to see how the old meta evolves into the new one.
Sometimes it only takes a single Pokémon becoming a powerhouse to shift the entire meta, while other times, in this case, Pokémon gain new moves in their movepools. Let’s dive in and explore these moveset changes.

The 45s switch timer is a major Change! Faster cycles benefit high-tempo cores and punish over-farming. Strong safe-swaps that are bulky and provide flexible coverage gain value. Expect alignment mind-games to intensify.
Building a team with a balance of bulky Pokémon, and spammy Charge Moves will be key to making the most of the shortened switch timer. Check out Part One of our meta analysis on the changes!
