While Steam remains by far the biggest platform for gaming on PC, GOG has amassed its own dedicated fanbase owing to its DRM-free promise alongside the store’s ever-updating game preservation program. In celebration of GOG’s 18th year in operation, the platform has announced its first-ever showcase – featuring “news about new games, new features and GOG entering a new chapter!”
Releasing a brief teaser trailer alongside a bespoke piece of artwork in anticipation of the event, GOG announced that it will be ‘celebrating’ its 18th birthday with “the first-ever GOG Showcase!”
Set to go live on later today on the 5th of November at 6PM UK time, very little has been revealed regarding what to expect, aside from the fact that the showcase will feature “news about new games, new features and GOG entering [a] new chapter!”
As a platform, GOG is already pretty feature-rich, and so it will be interesting to see what they have planned in this regard. When it comes to games, the possibilities are far greater given that GOG focuses on DRM-free offerings (as well as its preservation program), meaning there are countless titles past-and-present which could be announced for the platform.
Being the first ever showcase hosted by the store however, expect there to be some notable surprises. What these will be, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
