Summary
- GTA 5 fans have long wanted Michael to make an appearance in GTA Online, but it’s strangely never happened.
- Ned Luke, the actor behind Michael, has shared his thoughts on the matter over on Twitter.
- He’s having such a good time playing GTA Online himself right now that he’s “not sure” if he’d take the role up again if asked.
Ned Luke, the actor behind Michael de Santa in Grand Theft Auto 5, has responded to hopes that the character will make an appearance in GTA Online and suggested he might not do it if Rockstar asked.
Although it certainly doesn’t seem like it considering how long we’ve all been waiting for news (more than 500 days now), the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 is likely going to be with us by the end of the year. With that in mind, it looks like our time with Los Santos, GTA 5, and the original version of GTA Online are all coming to a close after more than ten years.

On the verge of temptation, Nintendo really said ‘Hold my drink.’
As excited as we all are to see the next generation of Grand Theft Auto, there is one big unfulfilled wish that Rockstar is seemingly not going to pull out of its hat to cap off the era of GTA 5. I am, of course, talking about the heavily fan-requested return of Michael de Santa in GTA Online, something that no longer seems likely to happen.
Don’t Expect Michael To Appear In GTA Online Before GTA 6’s Release
But Here’s Hoping For A Cameo In That Game
For those that don’t know, Michael is the only protagonist from Grand Theft Auto 5’s story mode that doesn’t make an appearance in GTA Online. Trevor was there near the start and an older Franklin was added fairly recently, but Michael is nowhere to be seen in the whole mode. Fans have long wanted that to change and for Rockstar to feature him in a new update, but it hasn’t come to pass.
Ned Luke, the actor behind Michael who has no doubt been asked a million times about the character appearing in GTA Online, recently shared his thoughts on the idea over on Twitter when a fan asked him to appear “one last time” in a DLC. Luke simply replied, “Wouldn’t that be nice?”, suggesting that it’s not really on the cards.
That wasn’t all that Luke had to say on the matter, though, as he followed up his original tweet with some musings on it all. Luke, who has played and streamed GTA Online in the past, said that he’s “enjoying playing all the random online DLC characters” and isn’t sure if he’d take on the role again if he was asked.
TBH at this point, I’m not sure I would do it even if they were to ask. I’m enjoying playing all the random online dlc characters so much…why mess with such a good thing? – Ned Luke
Of course, Luke has played this game before and is well aware of what he can and can’t say when it comes to unannounced Rockstar projects, so it’s not like he’d hint or tease that he’s returning. Still, it’s nice to see him making peace with the idea of not being in GTA Online, although I’m sure he’s hoping as much as us that the character comes back in GTA 6.
