Some people are just mean.
So, the internet is a unique place where all sorts of things can be found, and that includes key “insights” about what happens in other nations. What we’re talking about here today is an image that came from South America that highlights how the new Grand Theft Auto game has apparently already come out…, but it’s only come out for PS2. If you’re confused, don’t worry, we’ll explain it all, as it’s quite hilarious. The image itself comes from Reddit. Yes, we know that it’s not always the best place for direct information, but this picture is legit. The problem is that what’s IN the picture isn’t telling the truth.
As you can see, there’s a rack of video games on display here, and one of them is indeed Grand Theft Auto, and you’ll notice right off the bat that the game cover features the art from the upcoming 6th title, which is why it grabbed so many people’s eyes. So, the question becomes, “What is going on here?”
The answer becomes clear if you look at the other pieces of art on the rack. These are the standard game arts for those titles, and if you look at the text for one of them, you’ll see the name “Eurcdean Assault,” which is obviously not how it’s supposed to be.
In certain markets in South America, the vendors will do just about anything to get a sale, including lying about what they’re selling outright. More than likely, the title in question is a Rockstar Games title, but it is likely the original game set in Vice City, just with the new art to tease the modern version. Those not fully plugged into things might think they’re getting a new game, but in fact, they’re getting an old one. It just goes to show you that you need to have the right information about things so that you don’t get scammed by things like this.
We will admit that it’s “smart business” to try and use the hype for the upcoming title to make sales, and they did a decent job of using the 6th game’s cover art here to try and “make an impression,” but the problem is that anyone who really thinks about it will know that the PlayStation 2 couldn’t come close to handling what the new game is offering. It wouldn’t have been able to run the last two main entries of the franchise.
So, as always, be mindful of scams.
