Trainers! The Season of Precious Paths is underway, and with the new season we have debut of some new Pokémon as well. The Well Armed event introduces two new Pokémon to the game: The Tantrum Pokémon, Clobbopus, and its evolution, The Jujitsu Pokémon, Grapploct. So, how does this new evolution line stack up in the Pokémon GO meta? Let’s find out!

Grapploct is one of those Pokémon that instantly stands out in Pokémon GO — a grappling, eight‑armed fighter that looks like it was born to dominate close combat. In the main series, its whole identity revolves around technical grappling and submissions, so it’s natural for trainers to wonder: can this octopus actually wrestle its way into the PvE and PvP meta?
Grapploct in Pokémon GO PvE
On paper, Grapploct’s best raid moveset is Rock Smash 
+ Superpower , which maximizes same‑type bonus damage and gives it the highest DPS/TDO combination among its sets. Even so, its raid DPS sits clearly behind top Fighting options, signalling that it is more of a flavour or stopgap pick than a long‑term anchor for your raid teams. For gym offense it can clean up Normal, Rock and Steel defenders decently, but again faces heavy competition from stronger and more accessible Fighting types. Using our DPS Comparer Tool:
As you can see, Grapploct’s performance when compared to top 5 Fighting raid attackers, falls massively short, with its DPS being less than half of the top ranked Mega Lucario!!
Grapploct in Pokémon GO PvP
Ideal Moveset: Waterfall 
+ Ice Punch 
& Superpower
Where Grapploct is cool, is its coverage. It doesn’t just throw punches; it can also bring things like Ice and Water type coverage on the charged side, which lets it surprise , Dragon or Ground types that normally feel safe against Fighters. This mix of coverage is what gives it a bit of personality.
The catch is: Fast moves. Because of Grapploct’s poor Fast moves it’s charged moves aren’t insanely spammy, and you’re often stuck with awkward trade‑offs like using a self‑debuffing move. On paper the kit looks flexible, but in practice you’re playing a slightly clunky Fighter with decent tricks, rather than a smooth, oppressive threat.
Great League
In Great League, Grapploct is very much a “spice with upside” pick. It can absolutely put in work against some Normal and Rock types like Bastiodon, Lickilicky and Furret, but that’s about it. It loses to almost everything else in the Great League meta: Jellicent, Sealeo, Cradily and Altaria, to name a few. In any shield scenario, Grapploct has very few wins and very high losses. It can potentially catch people off guard with its coverage, especially in limited cups where people aren’t over‑prepped for it. When it lines up well, it feels great; when it doesn’t, its average bulk and lack of a standout Fast move really show.

Ultra League
In Ultra League, Grapploct benefits from its higher max CP, but the power level of the format scales faster than its stats, making it feel more like a spicy specialist than a consistent core piece. Its Fighting typing and coverage gives it some play into Steel, Normal and Ground options like Cobalion, Lickilicky and Runerigus, yet its middling bulk and lack of a truly oppressive fast move limit its ability to flip many premium Ultra League matchups that other Fighters already handle more efficiently.

Master League
In Master League, 3012 max CP simply isn’t enough; it falls far below the bulk and damage expectations of the tier and can be safely ignored outside of extreme meme teams.
Is Grapploct Worth Building?
If you’re the kind of player who loves efficiency and you only power up top meta Pokémon, Grapploct is probably a pass or, at best, a low‑priority side build. It doesn’t crack the raid charts and it doesn’t push out established Fighters in Open GBL.
But if you enjoy spicy picks, themed teams, or limited cups where weird coverage actually wins games, Grapploct becomes a lot more interesting. For most players, it is best treated as a fun side project rather than a dust‑heavy centrepiece, but for content creators and battlers who enjoy experimenting with quirky picks, Grapploct offers just enough tools to justify a well‑rolled copy in Great or Ultra League.
What the Future Holds
Now, hold on Trainers! Things have just got interesting. Anyone who has played the main series games will know two things about the Clobbopus line: First, Clobbopus evolves when levelled up while knowing Taunt . Second, when it evolves into Grapploct, it learns it’s signature move Octolock . Currently, the major drawback of Grapploct is it’s lack of a good Fast move, something which can easily be fixed if Taunt is added as a Fast move in the game and given to Grapploct. Add to it, the signature move Octolock as Charged move and we potentially have a whole new meta pick in Pokémon GO PvP. Make a note of it Trainers, and hold onto a good IV Clobbopus if you get one!
