Hello Kitty Has Teamed Up With Sonic For A New Collection Of Crossover Plushes

Sega teamed up with Sanrio earlier this year for a collaboration that turned Sonic, Shadow, and the rest of the hedgehog’s closest friends and enemies into cosplaying Hello Kitty characters. It turns out that crossover was pretty popular, as all of those designs have now been turned into plushes that will be available to buy starting in November.

Six Sonic characters have been given kawaii makeovers for the upcoming plush collection, each of them wearing a hood that represents a different Sanrio mascot. Since Sonic and Hello Kitty are the leaders of their respective brands, the blue blur is sporting a hood that has been designed to resemble Hello Kitty’s face, complete with the Sanrio mascot’s signature red bow.

Sonic As Hello Kitty, Tails As Cinnamoroll, And Knuckles As Kuromi All Just Make Sense

The rest of the Sonic crew has been pretty aptly paired up with their respective Sanrio character for the plush collection crossover. Well, for the most part. Tails has been combined with Cinnamoroll, which feels like the right call, and Knuckles is wearing a Kuromi hood. A little bit dark, chaotic, and moody, I could be describing Knuckles or Kuromi, hence them making the perfect pair.

An adorable winking Amy plush is My Melody in a shade of pink that matches the hedgehog’s spikes, and it’s after that when the character crossover decisions might not match up quite as neatly as the first four. Not only because Sega and Sanrio have attempted to avoid using characters twice, unlike the recent Hello Kitty x TMNT McDonald’s toys, but also because there’s not really anyone quite as evil as Dr. Robotnik in the Hello Kitty universe, nor as troubled as Shadow.

So that they can be inculcuded and, in turn, get as many Sanrio characters involved in the crossover as possible, Eggman has been given a Pompompurin hood. He looks pretty pleased with that decision, too. Shadow, on the other hand, doesn’t look all that happy that he’s been stuck with Hangyodon.

I’m just happy to see Hangyodon invited to the party. It’s not often they’re a part of these crossovers.

Five of the Sonic x Sanrio plushes will be available to buy from November 7, except for Shadow, who’s lagging behind and won’t be released until December 11, which isn’t like him. The bad news is, for now, they’re only going to be available in Japan, online and a little earlier than November 7 in Sega’s new store in Tokyo.

There’s a real chance the plushes are never released outside of Japan, but there will be sites, like Meccha Japan, where you’ll be able to buy them and have them shipped. The collection might also be a sign that Hello Kitty characters are coming to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. It’s already been teased that more non-Sega characters will join the roster post-launch, and Sega’s relationship with Sanrio is a strong one.
