If you’re coming over to Honkai Star Rail from something like Genshin Impact, you may be wondering if the game has controller support on PC and mobile devices. Indeed, there’s a lot going on in Honkai Star Rail and depending on your preference, a gamepad may make things easier — or just more enjoyable. So here’s whether or not you can play with a controller.
Does Honkai Star Rail Have Controller Support on PC?
Yes! Honkai Star Rail supports controllers on PC at launch. Simply connect your chosen gamepad, and HSR will recognize the inputs right away.
You can seamlessly switch between a controller and mouse and keyboard while playing once you’re beyond the tutorial, just after you meet Silver Wolf after the second battle. Trying to switch between input methods during the tutorial is prohibited unless you restart the game client.
Interestingly, you can even use gamepad and mouse and keyboard controls at the exact same time without much loss of fidelity. For example, you can move your character with WASD while moving the camera with a control stick and performing actions with face buttons.
Here’s a list of supported gamepads I was able to test:
- Xbox Wireless Controller
- Xbox Wired Controller
- PlayStation 5 DualSense
- PlayStation 4 DualShock
I attempted to get my PowerA Switch gamepad to work with the game but was unsuccessful. It’s possible that a Switch Pro Controller will also work, but I wasn’t able to confirm.
Does Honkai Star Rail Have Controller Support on iOS and Android Mobile Devices?
Unfortunately, Honkai Star Rail doesn’t feature controller support for iOS or Android mobile devices at launch. Whether pairing a controller via Bluetooth or a wired connection to your phone, you’ll still need to use the game’s touch controls to move about and perform attacks.
As with PC, I tried several different gamepads and wasn’t able to get any of them to work.
And that answers the question of whether or not Honkai Star Rail has controller support on PC and mobile iOS and Android. We’ll update this article when and if things change.
