Octopath Traveler 0 is a long game. It is, without question, one of the longest JRPGs I’ve ever played, and I have played everything from Dragon Quest 7 to Xenoblade Chronicles 2. It’s up there with them. The main story is remarkably hefty, and completing all available side content cranks things up several notches.

It might be harder than you think. But also deceptively easy.
Time’s a limited commodity in life, so take it from somebody who quite enjoys this game – you should know what it is that you’re signing up for when you name your protagonist and meet the good folk of Wishvale. Here’s what to expect.
Main Story
The main story alone in Octopath Traveler 0 was estimated by its producers to last around 100 hours. That wasn’t an exaggeration; I can truly see where they were coming from with this. Consider the structure: “Prologue -> three arcs split into three chapters each -> an eight-chapter arc -> three more arcs split into three chapters each -> another eight-chapter arc.” It is massive.
In practice, it probably took around 80 hours to get from Point A in the game’s critical path to Point Z, so to speak. But 100 is believable. The average will probably hem closer to 80, but 80-100 isn’t a stretch if we want to give a range rather than a more precise estimation.
Main Story + Side Content
One might expect the playtime to double for completionists, but that really isn’t the case. Octopath Traveler 0 does have a fair amount of side content, but it’s nowhere near as plentiful as the main story, which was definitely the priority in this Champions of the Continent adaptation.
A big source of added hours is the eight-chapter Wishvale restoration arc, which essentially tacks an additional storyline on top of the ones that have already been listed. It’s optional, but we strongly recommend doing it. From there, you can also expect Path Actions taken on every NPC, every side story, every elite enemy, monster arena content, and so forth to bring our estimate of a “complete file” to around 130-150 hours.
In other words, the core storytelling gives Octopath Traveler 0 a lengthy leg up on most of its peers, whereas a deep dive into Orsterra will simultaneously make it longer, but not quite push it into the stratosphere with the longest JRPGs to 100 percent – Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Persona 5 Royal, Star Ocean: The Last Hope… those sorts.
