Marvel Cosmic Invasion is already a fair bit longer than most other beat ’em ups on the market, but there’s even more to do than just beating the main game, thanks to all of the optional challenges.
Each level in Marvel Cosmic Invasion has three unique challenges to complete, which are usually based on using specific heroes in specific ways. They can be pretty tricky, but here’s how to complete them all.
New York City, Road To Annihilation
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Hit 3 enemies with a single web-swing kick using Spider-Man |
This one is fairly easy, as you just need to use Spider-Man’s air attack to hit three enemies at the same time. Just wait for a crowd to appear, and then jump and attack to web-swing. |
10 enemies defeated using Nova’s Energy Beam |
Nova’s signature attack, Energy Beam, lets him shoot projectiles, so you just need to use this to defeat 10 enemies. It just needs to be the finishing blow, too, so soften them up with a few punches to make this one easier. |
Avoided taking damage from swarming bugs |
Road to Annihilation has a few rounds of green swarming bugs that charge you in a group, but they’re made a ton easier if you have a flying hero, since you can just stay in the air. If you pick Nova for this level’s other challenge, this will be a breeze. |
Helicarrier, Operation Jailbreak
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Hit 3 enemies with a single electro-charge attack using Iron Man |
Iron Man’s electro-charge attack is a heavy that’s performed by holding down the attack button, which causes him to send out an electric orb. Just wait for three enemies to be nearby and then fire the attack off. |
Tossed 5 enemies in a pit using Captain America |
Captain America’s shield throw signature makes hitting enemies into pits a real breeze, but it’s even easier if you want until the elevator portion of the level. Tons of enemies spawn here and can easily be hit off the side, so don’t waste your time trying it in the first bit of the level like I did. |
15 enemies defeated using Helicarrier’s turret guns |
Once you’ve made it to the top of the helicarrier, you’ll come across turrets that can be activated by hitting them. As soon as you see them, just hit the turret as much as possible to fire off bullets and kill all the enemies that cross your path. |
Challenge |
How To Complete |
10 enemies defeated using Wolverine’s Feral throw |
Wolverine’s signature attack lets him leap onto enemies and grab them. It’s his best ability by far, so using it to kill 10 enemies is bound to happen naturally anyway. It doesn’t have to be the actual throw either, as it counts when you mash the attack button after latching on. |
Defeated 10 enemies by dropping Electric Bombs using Storm |
A little bit into the level, you’ll see Electric Bombs hanging above you that can be hit to near-instant kill most enemies. Simply play as Storm whenever these appear and fly up to hit them, and you’ll rack up 10 kills in no time. |
Freed all mutants |
Don’t worry, there are actually only two mutants to find in this level. As you make your way through Heavy Metal, you’ll see cells like the ones pictured to the left. Just smash all of the ones you come across, and you’ll find the two mutants. |
Savage Land, Rumble In The Jungle
Challenge |
How To Complete |
5 enemies defeated using She-Hulk’s throw |
Like Wolverine, She-Hulk’s signature attack is a grab that can either be comboed or turned into a throw. Also like Wolverine, it’s her best move, so you’ll get this one easily. Again, though, it doesn’t have to be the throw portion of the move for it to be added to the tally. |
Hit 5 enemies with a single special attack from Storm |
Storm’s special attack sees her raining down lightning from above, and it’s great for crowd control. The only part of this challenge to keep an eye on is making sure enough enemies are around, which is easier in the second half of the level. |
Avoided taking damage from dinosaur stampede |
Just like with the Swarming Bugs in Road to Annihilation, the dinosaur stampede is incredibly easy to avoid with a flying character. Since you’ll probably have Storm with you anyway for the level’s other challenge, just play as her whenever you see the red warning sign. |
Wakanda, Battle For Birnin Zana
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Defeated the mission’s boss using Black Panther |
This challenge is as easy as it sounds, as you just need to play as Black Panther while you’re dealing the final blow to Klaww. You don’t even need to exclusively use Black Panther, either, as it just has to be the last hit. |
Hit 3 enemies with a single shield throw using Captain America |
Captain America’s signature move lets him throw his shield around like a frisbee, and it can actually ricochet between enemies if there are enough around. Just wait for a big enough group before throwing it, and this is an easy challenge. |
Destroyed bug pods before they spawned 25 enemies |
This challenge is worded a little confusingly, but you just need to destroy all of the green bug pods that drop before they can spit out a cumulative 25 enemies. Aim for them whenever they drop in the level, and try to use a stronger hero to destroy them faster, and it’s not too hard. |
Blue Area Of The Moon, Full Moon Of The Insectoids
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Defeated the mission’s boss using Wolverine |
Just like before, all you need to do for this one is deal the final blow to Phoenix while playing as Wolverine. Simple! |
10 enemies defeated using Nova’s special attack |
Nova’s special attack is a powerful area-of-effect explosion that can hit multiple enemies at once, making this challenge fairly simple. Wait for big groups and use the special whenever it’s charged up, and you won’t have much trouble with this one. |
Avoided taking damage from bug barricade |
Around halfway into the level, you’ll run into a big wall blocking your path, which sends out tentacles to hit you. It’s not immediately clear, but this is the bug barricade, so just dodge those tentacles and take it down. |
Destromundo, The Flying Menagerie
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Defeated the mission’s boss using Spider-Man |
I’m sure you’re sensing a bit of a theme here, but use Spider-Man to deal the final blow against Venom and you’ll clear this challenge. Venom is very tough, though, so you’ll probably want to use another hero to get him to as little health as possible. |
Hit 3 enemies with a single Sonic clap using She-Hulk |
She-Hulk’s heavy attack lets her charge up a Sonic clap projectile that can hit a few enemies. That’s ideal for this challenge, which asks you to hit three at once. As you might have guessed by now, just wait for three or more enemies to be close together and let loose. |
5 enemies defeated using traps |
“Traps” is a bit of a vague word here, but in The Flying Menagerie’s case, it’s referring to the little pink creatures stuck in jars. Once freed, they’ll head either left or right and take out any enemies in their way. It’s best to wait until a few enemies are in its path before breaking the glass. |
Asgard, Fall Of The Golden City
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Tossed 10 enemies in pits using Phoenix |
Like Wolverine and She-Hulk, Phoenix’s signature attack is a grab that can be used to chuck enemies around or pummel them. This is a very easy challenge since the start of the level on the Bifrost has two pits on either side of it. Spam Jean’s throw whenever you can and use a sprint attack the rest of the time. |
Hit 4 enemies with a single tackle using Beta Ray Bill |
Beta Ray Bill’s sprinting attack is a powerful tackle that absolutely bulldozes through enemies. This challenge is best done in the early section of the stage where you’re on the Bifrost, as the path is very narrow and a ton of enemies eventually spawn in. |
Avoided taking damage from Galactus’s cosmic absorption |
Once you’re past the Bifrost part of the stage, you’ll see Galactus in the background of the level. He’s not just a prop, though, as he actually fires beams of cosmic absorption at the stage. Avoid where he’s about to blast (which is surprisingly easy), and this challenge is a breeze. |
Kylntar, Return Of The King
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Defeat 10 enemies using Venom’s throw |
Venom’s signature attack lets him grab, pound, and throw enemies, so you just need to use it to finish enemies off 10 times. This level has some tricky foes, so it’s better used on the smaller symbiotes around the level. |
Hit 5 enemies with a single special attack from Black Panther |
Black Panther’s special attack has him dashing across the screen multiple times to hit as many enemies as possible, which makes this a fairly easy one to beat. As always, wait for five or more enemies to be nearby before pulling it off. |
Avoid taking damage from corruption waves |
Cosmic Invasion doesn’t really make it clear what “corruption waves” are, but they’re the red balloon-shaped things that blow up from the pools of symbiote goo. You’ll want to use a character with ranged attacks to make this easier. |
Hala, The Kree/ Bugs War
Challenge |
How To Complete |
5 enemies defeated using Rocket Raccoon’s grenades |
Rocket’s signature attack has him throw a grenade with random properties, ranging from different elemental damage to a full-on nuke. It does high damage no matter what grenade you get, so keep flinging them out for this challenge. |
10 enemies defeated using Captain America’s shield throw |
Captain America’s signature attack, the shield throw, is one of the best projectile attacks in the game as is since it doesn’t need to recharge. Spam that sucker and make sure it’s the finishing blow for 10 enemies, and this won’t take long. |
Finished the first section undetected |
This might be one of the hardest challenges in all of Cosmic Invasion. To complete it, you’ll need to make it through the first half of the level without any of the drones spotting you, which is easier said than done. The trick here is that they can be destroyed with projectiles pretty easily, so make sure to have someone with long-range attacks to make this easier. Bonus points if they can fly! |
Sanctuary II, The Great Experiment
Challenge |
How To Complete |
10 parries performed using Phyla-Vell |
This might sound like a simple challenge, but Phyla-Vell’s parry is a little different to everyone else. Her parry is tied to her heavy attack, which makes it a little hard to pull off without hitting the enemy first. Make sure to try it against every enemy in the level, and you’ll eventually get there. If you’re not quite there by the end, it’s worth noting that some of Thanos’ attacks can be parried. |
10 enemies defeated using Iron Man’s special attack |
Iron Man’s special attack is a big repulsor cannon blast that goes across the screen. It’s pretty powerful, but if you want some guaranteed kills, use it against smaller or weakened enemies as much as possible. |
Avoided taking damage from Sanctuary-II defense system |
Around halfway into the level, you’ll have the choice of going through two doors. Whichever you pick, you’ll run into Sanctuary-II’s defense system, which will periodically attack you. Look out for the markings on the floor whenever it fires, and it’s easy enough to avoid. |
Fort Galactus, Free The Eater Of Worlds
Challenge |
How To Complete |
10 enemies defeated using Cosmic Ghost Rider’s cosmic machine guns |
Cosmic Ghost Rider’s signature move lets him shoot his machine guns for a projectile attack. The shots aren’t very strong on their own, but unleashing a full round can take out most enemies. It’s best used against smaller foes if you want to guarantee some kills. |
Hit 5 enemies with a single Stormbreaker throw using Beta Ray Bill |
Like most of the challenges in this game that require hitting multiple enemies at once, you’ll need to wait until there are five or more on screen, and then get them close together. Then, just use Beta Ray Bill’s signature move to throw out Stormbreaker and hit them all at once. |
Avoided taking damage from Galactus debris |
One of the main gimmicks of this level is Galactus, who stands in the background and occasionally sends debris flying your way. That debris marks the ground whenever it’s about to hit, so just keep an eye out and don’t let them touch you. |
Heteropteron, Hell Is The Hive
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Hit 5 enemies with a single special attack using Nova |
As we’ve mentioned before, Nova’s special attack is an area-of-effect explosion that can hit lots of enemies if positioned right. Hell is the Hive has a ton of smaller enemies, and this challenge only asks you to hit them at once, so it’s not too tough. |
5 cosmic-charged slashes performed using Phyla-Vell |
Phyla-Vell’s heavy attack is a powerful slash that infects enemies with cosmic damage. Use it on 5 enemies to easily clear this challenge. |
Avoided taking damage from Larvas |
Without a doubt the most annoying challenge in the whole game, since it’s not really clear what “Larvas” are. As it turns out, they’re the spider-esque creatures hanging in the background of most of the level that spit goo at you. Don’t get hit with that goo to clear this challenge, which is best done with a flying character or someone with projectiles so you can stay agile. |
Arthros Citadel, Negative Zone Showdown
Challenge |
How To Complete |
10 cosmic blasts performed using Silver Surfer |
Silver Surfer’s signature attack is a cosmic blast that can hit multiple enemies at once. Since this challenge doesn’t ask you to actually defeat the enemies, it’s incredibly simple and can be done very quickly. |
3 enemies defeated using Rocket Raccoon’s nuke grenade |
This one is a bit up to luck, as Rocket Raccoon’s nuke grenade has a chance of happening whenever you use his signature move. Keep throwing those grenades whenever you can to hopefully get the nuke and beat this challenge. |
Defeated 10 enemies with Galactus’ help |
Just like in Free the Eater of Worlds, Galactus stands in the background of this level – only this time, he’ll actually help you by attacking enemies at certain points. For this challenge, it seems you need to hit the enemies before Galactus kills them for you, so an agile character like Spider-Man or Rocket Raccoon is best-suited to the task. |
NYC Rooftops, The Last Battle
Challenge |
How To Complete |
Tossed 5 enemies in pits |
By now, you should definitely know how to toss enemies in pits to easily kill them. The Last Battle has a few areas with pits, so whenever they’re nearby, smack those enemies into the air and send them to their doom. |
Defeated the mission’s boss using Nova |
Just like with previous similar challenges, you need to deal the final blow to Annihilus as Nova to beat this challenge. |
Avoided taking damage from Annihilus’ negative rain meteors |
This is a bit of an odd one, as Annihilus’ negative rain meteors only appear in one of his moves during the final boss battle against him. As the challenge suggests, avoid taking damage from them when they do show up (which is very sparingly) to get this challenge. |
