In The Blood of Dawnwalker, Coen can get himself accidentally poisoned if he drinks Iulian’s or Ambrus’s poisoned blood in the Gilded Gauntlet quest. This happens if you helped Iulian complete the ritual in The Bittersweet Toast quest and then either drink directly from Iulian yourself when Ambrus offers it, or drink from Ambrus after he is defeated, after getting poisoned by Iulian.
In addition to this, there is also a regular version of the poison debuff that can affect you when fighting Tatzelwurms, the lizard monsters that live in the bogs. Here’s how to cure both of these poisons.
How to Cure Ambrus’s Poison in The Blood of Dawnwalker
If you drink Ambrus’s or Iulian’s poisoned blood in The Gilded Gauntlet quest, Coen will get poisoned. You’ll see that the health bar is green instead of red and that it is draining over time.
There will also be a poisoned icon and a Time Segment indicator below the health bar HUD, showing how long the poison will last (10-12 Time Segments).
No potion or item can cure this poison directly. The only way to deal with it is by passing time at the nearby Shrine to turn night into day. Under the light of the sun, this poison will burn away instantly, regardless of how much time was shown in the Time Segment countdown.
If you drank from Iulian and got poisoned, you’ll first have to defeat Ambrus before you can go to the Shrine. Alternatively, you can reload an earlier save to avoid making that decision.
Ambrus’s boss fight takes place in the St. Clement’s Monastery, and the nearest Shrine is the Maragir Crossroads, just east of there. Immediately after the fight, run to this Shrine in wolf form using Shapeshift.
Once you’re at the Shrine, there are two ways to pass the time. You can either pass the time using the Wait option until daybreak, or you can unlock perks or skills in the skill tree that require Time Segments to unlock. We recommend the second option, as this way, you won’t be wasting any time.
How to Cure Poison in Blood of Dawnwalker
Certain monsters in The Blood of Dawnwalker can poison Coen with their attacks, like the Tatzelwurm lizards that you can find roaming in the swamps. Just like Ambrus’s poison, there is no item or potion you can use to cure this poison. The only way to deal with it is to wait it out and heal through the damage over time.
During the day, you can use healing items like potions or certain Witchcraft abilities to out-heal the poison, whereas at night, you’ll need to rely on Vials of Blood or a Vampirism ability to survive until the poison wears off.
The poison status indicator at the bottom shows how long the poison will last (typically 10 seconds).
