How To Find And Use Mega Shards And Crystals In Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Mega Stones are your key to power and, as a natural consequence, victory in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. However, these powerful items are understandably difficult to afford and — in some cases — rare to find. You will likely have to limit your mega options when first these stones become available to you.

Thankfully, several Mega Stones will also be completely free. They may not be a walk-in-the-pokepark to acquire, but those who are willing to put in the hard work to grow and adventure will be greatly rewarded. After all, the saviour of Lumiose will need something special to complement their title.

All Stone Emporium Mega Stones

The Stone Emporium sells Mega Stones for Poke Dollars. All of these are available from the start of the game but are very expensive, and they will not work until you have acquired a Mega Ring by defeating Mega Absol in “Chase That Mysterious Pokemon!”

You can find this store on Vernal Avenue, just south of the Vernal PokeCenter. It is a stone building with a purple-painted facade.

All Quasartico Mega Stones

Player prepares to purchase an Excadrite from Quasartico Inc in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Quasartico will also sell Mega Stones, but their stones can only be purchased via Mega Shards (the items you get from destroying the purple rocks around the city). Furthermore, Quasartico will not become available until you have defeated both Dedenne guards during “The Secrets of Mega Evolution.”

Unlike the Stone Emporium, the list of Quasartico Mega Stones will expand as you progress in the story. By defeating important trainers, the Mega Stone of their ace pokemon will be added to Quasartico’s catalogue.

*Defeating Naveen the first time did not trigger its appearance for us immediately. It is likely you must complete the Froslass Rogue Mega Evolution mission before it appears for sale.

All Mission Reward Mega Stones

Player faces rogue mega absol in battle in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Some Mega Stones will not require a purchase and will be given throughout story progression. Most of them require defeating a Rogue Mega-Evolved boss pokemon, usually in groups of three. However, some Mega Stones on this list will be given as a gift by NPCs that you encounter through the story.

Do not worry about missing these; obtaining these Mega Stones will be part of the natural storyline. It is impossible through normal means to complete the game without obtaining all the following stones.

How To Get Event Mega Stones

The Mega Stones for Delphox, Chesnaught, and Greninja will be given out via awards through the Ranked Battle system. Each season will feature a different Mega Stone:

Mega Stone

Ranked Season

Estimated Date

Greninjite

1

With launch until November 4

Delphoxite

2

Early November

Chasnaughtite

3

TBD

To qualify for the seasonal award, you must reach Rank K in the Z-A Battle Club ranked online matches. You do not have to end the season at Rank K, however, as you will receive the award as soon as you reach the qualification rank.

During the season, each match will pit you against four players in three-minute battles. To rank well in battle, you need to prioritize the following:

  1. Defeat several pokemon without losing too many of your own.
  2. Quickly find and pick up an item.
  3. Be the first to Mega Evolve in battle.
  4. Defeat a Mega-Evolved pokemon.
  5. Use supereffective moves.

Your placement will dictate how many points you win or lose during a match. You need 50 points to gain one letter rank. The points are allotted as such:

  • 1st: 30pts
  • 2nd: 10pts
  • 3rd: -10pts
  • 4th: -30pts
