Being able to obtain both Magearna and its Magearnite Mega Stone in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is a very nice bonus from Mega Dimension, but there’s only one way in the DLC to get the Mythical Pokemon for yourself. Not only is this through a particular side mission, but you almost need to complete a whole other side mission to unlock that one first.
What’s more, the main side mission to earn Magearna can be quite a grind for some. Thankfully, this quick and easy Mega Magearna location and walkthrough guide will tell you all you need to get this unique Pokemon added to your Legends: Z-A Pokedex.
How To Get Magearna And Its Mega Stone
To get your own Magearna in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the Magearnite Mega Stone to unlock Mega Magearna, you need to complete ‘Side Mission 195: Restarting Magearna’, which is initiated by talking to Jett in the lobby of the Quasartico Inc. building.
In case you’ve not played Pokemon Legends: Z-A in a while before installing Mega Dimension, Quarsartico Inc. is found within the northwest corner of the Lumiose City map.
However, you won’t be able to unlock Side Mission 195 to get Magearna until you complete ‘Side Mission 190: A Mimikyu for My Cutie’, which is also started within the Quasartico Inc. lobby, but by talking to Vinnie instead.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension: How To Get Milotic
With the Mega Dimension DLC out, here’s how to easily catch a Feebas in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with walkthroughs on how to evolve it into Milotic.
Side Mission 190: A Mimikyu for My Cutie Walkthrough
For this particularly tricky Pokemon Legends: Z-A quest, Side SM 190: A Mimikyu for My Cutie has Vinnie task you with catching a Mimikyu to give to him for his daughter (as the name implies).
How To Get Mimikyu
In order to find a Mimikyu in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you need to find one in a three-star Hyperspace Wild Zone featuring Ghost- and/or Fairy-type Pokemon that have spawned one. Ghost and Fairy are Mimikyu’s dual zones, which is why you can only find one in these specific types of Hyperspace areas.
You’ll have access to three-star Hyperspace Wild Zones in Pokemon Legends: Z-A once you’ve started ‘Hyperspace Mission 08: Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No.4’. After that, you can keep re-rolling for Mimikyu spawns in your Hyperspace Lumiose map by resting at a bench to reset them with a new day/night cycle — just like when trying to catch a Mudkip to evolve into Swampert.
Although you’ll have had the means to unlock Mimikyu spawns in Legends: Z-A around halfway through Mega Dimension’s campaign, it’s likely you might not have found any right away; that’s because Mimikyu is one of the rarest non-Shiny spawns in the entire game.
Some Pokemon’s Hyperspace Wild Zones will appear on the map with just a few bench re-rerolls. To find a Mimikyu’s Hyperspace Wild Zone in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, though, it took us 38 bench re-rerolls over the course of 45 minutes for one to spawn. That’s even rarer when finding Frigibax, Arctibax, and Baxcalibur later in the game.
Once a Hyperspace Wild Zone with Mimikyu does spawn, on the other hand, it’s fairly easy to spot; its frame is slightly zoomed out, so you can almost see its entire silhouette: with the pointed trim of its outfit showing at the bottom, and its thin Pikachu-shaped head bobbing to the right.
After finally making Mimikyu spawn in Legends: Z-A, catching it is the easy part of this Mega Dimension side mission, since its catch rate is fairly high. It’s not so high that you can throw an Ultra Ball at any and get a guaranteed catch, but we managed to catch five (including an Alpha Mimikyu), just by depleting their health and utilizing the catch window.
Just like in other games, the Fairy- and Ghost-type Mimikyu doesn’t have just one weakness in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, but two: Ghost- and Steel-type moves. Take any Pokemon with moves like Steel Punch or Shadow Ball, so you can deplete any Mimikyu’s health and catch them rather quickly while you’re dealing with attacks from other Pokemon in the Hyperspace zones.
A Mimikyu For My Cutie Completion And Rewards
Return to Vinnie and give him your worst Mimikyu to complete the side mission. You can, of course, give him any Mimikyu you want, but if you, for example, give him a Mimikyu with the worst IVs, it won’t make any difference in how satisfied he is with this new Pokemon for his daughter.
In exchange for completing ‘Side Mission 190: A Mimikyu for My Cutie’, you’ll receive 10,000 Poke Dollars, five Heavy Balls, and five Lure Balls.
Now that you’ve completed SM 190 in Mega Dimension, Side Mission 195 to unlock Magearna will become available; leave Quasartico Inc. and immediately re-enter it so Jett will spawn as the new quest-giver next to Vinnie.
Side Mission 195: Restarting Magearna Walkthrough
As you speak to Jett to initiate Side Mission 195 in Legends: Z-A, you’ll be able to complete it and get Magearna (along with its Magearnite Mega Stone) once you’ve collected 999 Mega Shards to essentially reboot the dormant Pokemon.
How To Collect 999 Mega Shards
Normally, taking a long time to farm in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A base game, you can grind all 999 Mega Shards to awaken Magearna much faster by destroying Mega Shard crystals in Hyperspace areas instead of regular Lumiose City.
This is because Mega Shards in Hyperspace Lumiose are much more abundant and clustered more closely together in both Hyperspace Wild Zones and Battle Zones — making collecting them far less time-intensive than running around a whole city just breaking one at a time.
You will still need to feed Hoopla donuts to enter each Hyperspace zones, as usual; despite that, even quickly whipping up one-star donuts to enter higher-level areas to run around without battling, and just smashing whatever crystals you see, makes the process far easier.
What’s more, if you collect enough Colorful Screws in the Legends: Z-A base game, you can unlock Canari Plush upgrades to boost the number of Mega Shards you get with each crystal smash.
When fully upgraded, we found that farming 999 Mega Shards in Hyperspace Wild Zones, especially, only took around 30 minutes after starting from nearly zero.
Get Magearna And Magearnite
Return to Jett with the 999 Mega Shards, and Magearna will immediately awaken after its 500-year slumber.
Right away, Jett will hand Magearna over to you to see the world with the rest of your Legends: Z-A Pokemon — along with its Mega Stone, so you can have Mega Magearna as part of your arsenal.
As ‘Side Mission 195: Restarting Magearna’ completes, you’ll also get 20,000 Poke Dollars and five units of Exp. Candy XL as your final rewards.
