Shiny hunting in Pokemon games is an obsession that many of us fall victim to. Even though some shinies are notably better or worse than others, it doesn’t stop us wanting to track down as many as possible, especially shiny variants of our favourite ‘mon, and it’s no different in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
If you want to know how Shiny hunting works in Legends: Z-A, how to improve your odds, and the best place to farm Shiny Pokemon, we’ve got everything you need to know right here.
What Are Shiny Pokemon?
Shiny Pokemon are variants that appear with different colourations. Sometimes the differences can be quite slight, like a darker or lighter tone, whereas other Shinies have completely different colour palettes. The base chance of finding a Shiny is one in 4,096.
You can spot a Shiny not only because of its different colouration, but because it will have sparkles around it and make a twinkle noise when you get in close proximity.
Even Alpha Pokemon can be Shinies!
Shinies in Legends: Z-A work a little differently than before as now the game saves up to ten Shiny Pokemon in place in your save file. If you leave the area where the Shiny is but return later, the Shiny will still be there, unless you have reached more than ten Shinies, and then the oldest one will be replaced by the new Shiny.
These Shinies stay in place until they are defeated in battle, caught, or if they flee.
You can also tell which of your Pokemon are Shiny by examining their Pokedex information in your team and boxes, as they will have the Shiny star markers beside their level at the top.
How To Increase Shiny Odds
You can increase the odds of finding a Shiny to one in 1,024.38 by obtaining the Shiny Charm. This essentially quadruples your chance of finding a Shiny, but you’ll have to complete a lot of Research Requests for Mable to earn it.
Best Place To Farm Shiny Pokemon
Because of how the game stores up to ten Shiny Pokemon, this makes Wild Zone 3 the opportune place to farm for Shinies with almost no effort. Because there is a building you can enter in the zone, you can just head there and then press down on the left stick so that you keep entering and exiting the building.
Every time you exit/enter, it refreshes the Pokemon in the area and rerolls them all, so doing this quickly means you’re constantly rerolling for Shinies and the game will store up to ten regardless of whether you keep doing this. You can put an elastic band on your left thumb stick and leave your character running in and out and then come back to reap the rewards of the Shinies.
We did this for about and hour and had three Shinies waiting for us.
Don’t forget both the Fletching Alpha on the roof and the Litleo Alpha near the entrance to the roof can be Shiny too.
