In an increasingly AI-filled world, it’s refreshing to learn Crimson Desert is fully voiced by actual, human people

Crimson Desert will be fully voiced by humans, Pearl Abyss’s marketing director has assured in a recent interview.

Speaking with John Paul McDaniel (ItmeJP) and his peers on the Dropped Frames podcast, marketing director Will Power responded to a question on whether all the voices in upcoming open world action RPG Crimson Desert will be voiced by human beings.

“I’m not going to criticize other games, but all of our voices are done by humans,” Power stated. “I’m refraining from saying that 100% of the NPCs have human voices […] because if that’s not the case for even one NPC, I don’t want the internet to accuse me of lying. But yes, all the main NPCs and those in side quests have actors’ voices. The game features voice acting in different languages.”

These languages, as of writing, are English, Korean and Chinese according to the game’s Steam page, however previous reporting has claimed that other languages are in the works.

This same interview featured Will Power emphasising that Crimson Desert was a “premium experience”, with no microtransactions whatsoever unlike its predecessor Black Desert Online. The game’s been drumming up a lot of excitement as of late with its 19th March release date soon approaching.

It’s a wild time to be alive when fully human-voice performances are something that stands out as a positive in an industry grappling with generative AI technology. However, given the positive reception to the lack of microtransactions and this, there’s clear appetite for a polished game made with human hands.
