LocalThunk and Playstack have announced that the phenomenally popular indie card roguelike Balatro has smashed another major sales barrier.
Speaking on X (formerly known as Twitter) earlier today, the two studios revealed that Balatro sales have crossed a million, less than one month after the game was originally released.
This news comes less than two weeks after LocalThunk and Playstack announced that the game had crossed 500,000 sales, so it’s fair to say that Balatro‘s popularity is growing rapidly.
In response to Balatro hitting a million sales, LocalThunk and Playstack say they still “have some fun things planned for the future”.
It’s not yet clear what those “things” might be, but we’re assuming that a full Balatro roadmap can’t be far away.
The game recently received an update introducing several new languages, but it has yet to see its first major content drop, so expect that sooner rather than later.
If you’re unfamiliar with Balatro, it’s a card-based roguelike that takes inspiration from poker, but puts its own unique spin on that venerable game’s rules.
Your goal in Balatro is to create valid poker hands, then combine them with the game’s many Joker cards in order to create “varied synergies and builds”. As you play, you’ll also uncover hidden bonus hands and build your own deck.
As well as eight difficulty levels across its campaign, Balatro also offers daily runs, seeded runs, and challenges to complete, so you shouldn’t run out of content too quickly if you’re a fan of its fast-paced card-based action.
It’s all wrapped up in a psychedelic synthwave soundtrack that should add a touch of synaesthesia to the endless hours you’ll doubtless spend getting lost in Balatro‘s world.
