It Looks Like Sony Is Gunning for Fan-Led Concord Revival With DMCA Takedowns

It looks as though Sony might be gunning for a fan-led revival of ill-fated live-service shooter Concord, if recent DMCA takedowns seemingly issued by the publisher are anything to go by.

As spotted by the folks over at The Game Post, it looks like Sony has hit two YouTube videos showing gameplay from fan-made custom servers with DMCAs, and since those videos were uploaded by the project’s main architects, the revival itself might be in the publisher’s crosshairs.

The takedowns themselves were, as The Game Post points out, issued by a firm known as MarkScan, which Sony has used on a number of occasions to take down unauthorized work based on its IP, including efforts like Lilith Walther’s Bloodborne demake.

Concord‘s fan-led custom servers have had gameplay footage hit by DMCAs seemingly issued by Sony.

Although Sony hasn’t actually issued a DMCA takedown for the custom server project itself, the strikes issued against the videos were sufficient to spook the project’s developers into pausing server invites “for the time being”, according to a message on its official Discord server.

The story of Concord is a legendary one in the gaming industry at this point. The game launched in late August last year for PC and PlayStation 5, but its dire player numbers caused Sony to shut it down less than three weeks after its release.

Following news of the game’s shutdown, a group of Concord trophy-hunters took to hurling themselves off cliffs and ledges during matches in an effort to quickly earn XP and therefore bag themselves what would become one of the PS5’s rarest Platinum trophies.

Sadly, that rather amusing spectacle wasn’t enough to prevent Sony from shutting down Concord developer Firewalk Studios in October 2024, along with mobile outfit Neon Koi.

Custom server project Concord Delta emerged a couple of days ago, and its developers describe it as “playable, but buggy”. Of course, whether the project remains playable will come down to whether Sony deems its continued existence acceptable or not.
