James Bond is a legendary figure in fiction, and now Daniel Craig’s take on the character has a full life on display.
Unfortunately, they’ll have to wait some more after the disappointing update Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond movies, recently gave. According to Deadline, at the event on Wednesday, which was held for Christopher Nolan’s British Film Institute Fellowship Award ceremony, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was very excited about meeting Broccoli. On top of being a surprise warm-up speaker for the ceremony and making the attendees laugh, Sunak quipped about becoming the next Bond and even joked that he left his CV under her seat, proving that he’s looking forward to updates just as much as the fans are. However, Broccoli said, “No, there’s nothing I can tell you about the next Bond film. There’s nothing. Nothing is happening yet.”
Even though Broccoli told the publication that nothing is in the works yet, they probed a bit further and asked if she had discussed plans for the next James Bond with director Denis Villeneuve, who was also in attendance. She avoided the question, stating she had to say goodnight to the Prime Minister. Villeneuve left the discussion about Bond on a more positive note by stating that the character is linked to his childhood and is “a charismatic figure he’s adored through the years.”
This is not the first time Broccoli has shared disappointing news about the James Bond franchise. In late 2023, she shared that it could take a while for Craig’s James Bond successor to be announced. She also revealed that filmmakers want to modernize the series with the actor they decide to bring on.
Because James Bond is a legendary character and the film franchises, which span over six decades, have such a wide fan base, it’s not shocking that Broccoli and the team are still taking their time to make the best choices they can. Following iconic actors like Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Craig and their adventures is no easy feat, so the more time they can spend getting the new James Bond actor and franchise right, the better.
